Fever series, book 7

13 hours and 9 mins

Genre: Urban Fantay

It’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed.

Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil gets blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth

Burned

I’m a colossal fan of this series, and listening to Burned made me feel like I had been lost wandering aimlessly around through the literary world for the past two years and I finally came home.

I freaking loved being back!!! Just being back and having my wheels turning once again made me forget the long wait. Lost in a world of mystery and suspense where the surprises never give you time to settle  is once again plain awesome and addictive….Within a few minutes, I felt like I never left and never wanting to leave again.

After I heard Mrs. Moning was making this story about Mac, I couldn’t help to think, what else is there to say about Mac & Jericho? I didn’t think their story could successfully continue without having to ruin their HEA…I was wrong…So wrong.

The Fever world continues to be an amazing blend of darkness, mystery, testosterone and an incredible sensuality that coats the suspense and danger of its stories.

The story takes off with a super HOT introduction from Barron’s point of view, and it makes it clear from the get-go that this world is no child’s play.
If you bought the audio clip from Mrs. Moning’s website a few years back, you would know what I’m talking about.

The first few minutes of this audiobook move the story into to a higher level of sensuality. This time is sexier, edgier with a more direct approach to its adult content than any of the previews installments. I for one, loved it!

We get more than one point of view to let us spend time with Dani, Barrons, The Unseelie King, Christian, Kat and of course Mac.

Here are few things I absolutely loved about Burned

1- The way the author manipulated the plot to deliver Mac’s voyeuristic point of view….Brilliant!

2- The clever twist that delivers us a new Dani…Or maybe an old Dani that’s always been there, but we failed to notice.

3- The way some old scores get settled…Yeah! Heads will roll!!

4- The way Barrons continues to be the sexiest men in fiction (yeah, my feelings..LOL)

5- The way Ryodan is almost the sexiest men in fiction and continues to be a bad-ass that leaves you no doubt he’s no one to mess with, and  not being sure what’s behind some of his actions,  have me the most curious.

6- The way in which the author continues to bring our favorite Highlanders to the Fever world. Oh Christian! I’m so glad he has some pretty strong allies.

7- The unique writing style that weaves strong human emotions to deliver  authentic and relatable characters that despite its fantasy setting never fail to transport your heart and mind to the setting.

Best of all!

The way in which I was once again left looking for clues and hints of what’s coming next and the motivations behind some of the character’s actions.
A lot more mysteries to unravel and theories to be made….
Yup! Once again, Mrs. Moning have left me wanting more.

Nothing new here, but exactly what I expected and knew only Karen Marie Moning could deliver.

Warning: The story takes off pretty much where ICED left off. I highly recommend reading/listening to that installment to get the best experience out of BURNED.

Burned Audiobook Narration

Phil

To hear Phil Gigante utter those two words, Miss Lane, is just phenomenal!

Not in million years I could imagine a better interpretation for these dark, mysterious and all around sexy males than Phil Gigante’s. I know he moves these novels up a notch for me every time.

His approach to Barrons, Ryodan, Christian and the rest the MacKeltars (every male character for that matter) is impeccable. Way to convey their darkness, authority and sex appeal..OH MY!

His Scottish accents are magnificent! The different tone and voice for each character are always right on. It’s not easy to convey a face expression just by one’s voice, but Phil manages to do that every time..BRAVO! If you’re already a fan, you know what I mean. And if not, you’ll be one soon.

Fever is a world full of testosterone, and Phil never lets you forget that. Don’t let me forget his voicing of some the unseelie creatures…..He’ll make your skin crawl.

And most important, he takes you to Dublin, every time.

I loved his performance!

Natalie

Natalie Ross was not left behind in this duo.
She also does a great job with all the female voices. I had a little problem in Iced when it came to figuring out who was talking beside Mac…Not here. This wasn’t an easy job. We have Kat, Joe, Dany, Jada… just to mention a few. I know, you’ll meet Jada..soon! I always knew who was talking.
Natalie is the narrator of the story for the biggest part of the novel. The responsibility of the pace and the major interpretation of the story falls on her shoulders. Once again she skillfully brings you to Fever world. She easily lets you experience the mood of the novel by conveying the urgency of some of the scenes.
As usual, she’s right on with Mac.

All in all, I love both performances. They truly complement each other to brings us another great episode in the Fever world.
