Their body art is hot. Their chemistry is even hotter.

From her dark hair sweeping below her waist to her soft, sexy curves, Tenley Page intrigues tattoo artist Hayden Stryker in a way no one else ever has…especially when she asks him to ink a gorgeous, intricate design on her back. Yet for all her beauty, there is something darkly tragic and damaged about Tenley that, for Hayden, is everything.

Covered in ink and steel, Hayden is everything Tenley has never dared to want, awakening a desire to explore more than the art adorning his stunning body. Trapped by a past that leaves her screaming from nightmares, Tenley sees Hayden as the perfect escape. Although he has secrets too, if they both keep themselves guarded perhaps their intense physical connection will remain only that.

But nothing, not even passion, can keep them safe from their pasts….

My thoughts

Clipped Wings is my first novel by Helena Hunting, but decidedly  not my last since I was left hanging in one of the worst ways imaginable, and I say that, because a cliffhanger is never possible when the author hasn’t managed to grab and capture your attention.

Let’s be honest, if you don’t care about what is going to happen next it can never be called a cliffhanger.

This is the story of Tenley Page and Hayden Striker; a tale of two broken souls whose past experiences with monumental losses have left a pretty sad imprint in their hearts.

In a smartly written story, Helena Hunting takes us through their journey, one that reassures our believe that  love can heal all wounds, and raises our hope that these two credible, engaging, and beautifully written characters can find their much deserved happy ending.

Two points of view take us to the beginning of it all. Tenley has moved to Chicago in pursuit of a Masters from Northwest University – she works at  a cupcake shop that happens to be in front of a tattoo parlor, run by its owner, Hayden Striker, a beautiful tattoo artist  (inside and out) whose covered tattoo body and body piercings don’t stop you from appreciating his good looks, sex appeal and charm.

I loved the two points of view, I loved being in Tanley’s head, but I love even more being in Hayden’s.  I really enjoyed seeing how these two damaged souls complement each other , I really got the sense of how perfect they are together, and how much they can help one one another.

Clipped Wings not only grabbed my attention, but in the process captured my heart. To say that I want a Hayden of  my own would be an understatement, I adore his character in this book!

Their story is touching, romantic, and at times heartbreaking, but oh boy! Did I love listening to it.

Their sizzling chemistry is off the charts, their moments together are hot!

There were some frustrating moments I can’t deny, but for the most part I enjoyed this audiobook  from beginning to end…….Wait! There’s no end, and that’s a drawback, but honestly, it’s been a long time since I’ve fallen for a character, so I’ll give Ms. Hunting a pass, and patiently wait for the next novel.

Clipped Wings Audiobook Narration

The book alternates points of view between Hayden and Tenley’s.

When I first started to listen I thought  narrator, Jason Carpenter sounded it a little dry and emotionless, but not long into the narration he began beautifully to breathe life into Hayden’s character. His tone and approach skillfully rendered Hayden’s personality, as well as his emotions, and by the end I absolutely love his interpretation.

His female voices were OK, not as bad as some male narrators can be.

Narrator, Elizabeth Louise does a wonderful job with Tenley, and just like Jason, her portrayal was excellent. I really liked her male voice for Hayden, not very often I’d say that he sounded just as good as Jason.

All in all, these two narrators do a terrific job of bringing each character’s emotions and personality to life; they equally make you feel, and put you right in their story.

I’m looking forward to the next book, and I really hope it’s once again performed by these two talented narrators.
