Fever Series, Book 1
8hrs and 57 mins

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman.

Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death – a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone – Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers.

The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed – a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae.

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane – an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women – closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book – because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds

My Thoughts

Oh! Faeries!! Who knew they could be this hot and interesting!

Welcome to one the series that made me happy, angry, sad, hot ( in a good way) and almost incredibly crazy… All at the same time!! Lucky for you, all 5 books contained in the first part of the series are available in all formats.

Darkfever is the first entry to the fever series, here we get to introduce to the world of Mackayla Lane, and let me tell you, I have never, ever!! wanted to be anyone else but myself, except for Mackayla Lane.

I’ve read and listen to this entire series a few times. Mrs. Moning holds a special place on my favorite list, even though I have felt on more than one occasion wanting to go Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates from the movie Misery) on her arse. I guess it takes an excellent story and writer to get under your skin that way.

This book is just the introduction, is not unforgettable or epic, but it happens to be the first part of this story, a story full of mystery, darkness, sex appeal, intrigued and excitement that keeps you wanting more and more.

Even though I have rated this book’s sensuality warm, be aware it’s still an adult read.

MacKayla Lane starts her journey as a pampered 20-something Southern blonde as she travels to Ireland to investigate her sister’s murder. When she arrives, she learns that she and her sister were born to an ancient line of women called sidhe-seers, who see and battle fae. With this knowledge, she begins to walk a tightrope of alliances with druids and Fae.

I won’t bother summing up the book or recapping the highlights because so many others have already done so, and I will be posting a link to the best (in my opinion) detailed review of this book, but what I do want to convey it’s how wonderfully this world was build and how magnificently the characters development was achieved, what brings me to my favorite and still unsurpassed dark, sexy, mysterious, hot, attractive, masculine and most desirable protagonist in a book, Jericho Barrons, to this point in all my readings and listens I haven’t found a more interesting lead (alpha male) in a book.

While Mac comes to Ireland to investigate her sister murder she runs a crossed J. Barrons. He does everything he can to get rid of Mac in the beginning, but when she gets into deep he takes her under his wing. He insists it’s not for altruist purposes, that he only is helping her because she can be of use to him. However, every so often he shows a slight softness under the gruff armor, and here begins the best sexual tension I’ve ever read/listen to in a book.

This is dark, sexy, mysterious and agonizing (maybe not as much, now that all the books are out)series I’ve ever read/listened to, and this book is only the beginning.

I couldn’t recommend this series more than I’m doing right now, and if you are a fever/Moning maniac, what a great way this is to revisit this book.

Darkfever Audiobook Narration

Joyce Bean was great with  Mac’s POV on the Darkfever audiobook, she might sound a little old for a 22-year-old, but after a few minutes of listening to I hardly even noticed. I thought the southern accent was perfect and just in tone with Mac’s character, some of my southern friends might disagree.

I’m hardly a good judge of a real southern accent, with Spanish being my native language, I feel the moment you throw in the word fixing you sound southern, but what I can positively tell you is that the narration and Ms. Bean’s approach reflected the carefree, innocence and sometimes spoiled attitude of Mac.   she also did a good job with the male characters, she managed to have a very distinctive voice for Barrons, and one that echoes the darkness, danger and mysterious aspects of he’s personalty (a bad interpretation of Barrons, would’ve been a deal-breaker for me). She conveyed the suspense, the darkness  and the mysterious feeling of this world.  In the end, I can honestly tell you, I’ve  equally enjoyed reading and listening to this book, so I highly recommend it in either format.
