 My Thoughts

The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning has to be one of my favorite series of all time, and with the upcoming release of the newest addition (ICE) to this dark, sexy, mysterious, agonizing and all around BRILLIANT world, I decided to do a re-listen to be ready to savor the feeling of being in this universe once again.

There are times that my imperfect knowledge of the English language leaves me frustrated with my inability to put into words my feelings – this is such a case, but to be honest I can summarize it in two words: PLAIN AWESOME!!

Not to mention this is the world in which my favorite, #1 alpha male, Jericho Barrons, was created.

If you love Urban Fantasy with a dash of romance, mystery, suspense, and the perfect and most delicious sexual tension ever created, look no further than The Fever Series.

This is one of the few series that I have truly and equally enjoyed in both formats; print and audio, so if you are an audiobook fan and haven’t had the opportunity to indulge in this fantastic tale, there’s no better time than now – you won’t have to endure the most agonizing cliffhangers ever, the way I did, and this is why I’m going to warn you the beginning of each novel is a spoiler, so if you have not read the series, do yourself a favor and skip listening to the samples after book 1.

Here, you can find countless reviews and opinions about the plot characters and writing style; I loved everything. Here, are my thoughts of the performance, interpretation and delivery by the narrators.

 Narrator

Joyce Bean – books 1-2-3

I’ll be the first one to tell you, I’m not a very good judge of a regional southern accent, but I can positively  tell you is how much I enjoyed the interpretation by Ms. Bean, even though, at first her voice may appear too old to portray a 22 year- old, those thoughts are quickly forgotten within a few minutes of her delivery, on the other hand, you might not ever get over it, and so I recommend listening to the longer sample before you make your decision.

Ms. Bean beautifully conveys the darkness, danger and the perplexity of this world, she also does a good job bringing Mac’s character to life with the perfect amount of vulnerability innocence, and courage, without overlooking the spoil manner in which sometimes she comes across. After all this is Mac 1.0

Her male voices are OK, and her interpretation of Barrons is acceptable. I definitely got the darkness and complexity, as well as, the oozing sex appeal this character possesses.

All in all, she does an OK job. My opinion comes from having listened to the audiobook prior to reading the printed copy. I can’t say how I would feel if it were the other way around.

One more thing I have to point out is how much better this series gets with each additional novel; you might find the first book just meh– and may be a little disappointed with the narration; stick with it, I can assure you, it only gets better and better.

Narrators

Natalie Ross and Phil Gigante – books 4-5

Now, for my favorite book and the series, DREAMFEVER and Shadowfever  we get treated to what I wish every romance novel should do, and that is to be read by a female and male narrator, and just what I just said; this was an amazing treat.

Natalie Ross does an excellent job with the more mature, wiser and older Mac, so the change of voice  in the middle of a series (I normally don’t like that) goes hardly noticed. She also does a good job at placing you right in the middle of the action.

What can I say about Phil Gigante? Oh my! He is perfect! His deep and sexy voice is just what you imagine our dark, sexy hero to sound like.

Overall, these two talented narrators, bring these last two novels to life and in a way that lets you experience them with all the emotions by their flawless interpretation of the stories and characters, I can honestly say; the narration moves these two novels up a notch, and makes them an awesome listening experience.

If you haven’t discovered this enthralling and downright addictive Urban Fantasy, you are in for a treat!
