Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty—unprepared for the delights to come.

Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions. Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.

My Thoughts

Oh boy, oh boy! Did I love this one!

For me, this was an outstanding introduction to Maya Banks…. Where have you been all my life?

When Graeme Montgomery is ordered by the Kind to married the daft (so they think) deaf “touched” and only daughter of his enemies, he believed he was getting the worse part of this bargain, and now his family name would die, because this broken creature he’s about to marry won’t be able to give him any heirs, and he’s expecting his life with this woman to be one full of angst and deprived of passion…. OH boy! Was he wrong!!

Arrange marriages were common in that period of time, but marrying outside your clan was unthinkable, both families are torn by the King’s orders, but in order to avoid waging a war against a powerful king they decide to comply with his request.

From the moment, Graeme Montgomery met Evelyn he felt something he couldn’t explain, he never expected to find a beautiful woman, and his meeting with the lovely Eveline surprised him, as it surprised her. Deaf as a result of a horse accident, she’s been fiercely protected by her parents, and now she has to leave their protection and go on to live with her family and clan’s enemies.

I loved this book from the first chapter; Maya Banks writing is easy and uncomplicated, but it’s just magical.

I was immediately transported to this world with a big grin on my face.

This is just a pleasure from beginning to end, the characters are perfectly fleshed out; the world is real, vivid, and the passion and anticipation is top notch.

I adored both protagonists, but specially Eveline, my heart ached and rejoiced with her resilience and valor.

If you love Historical romance novels, I HIGHLY recommend Never Seduce a Scot, this is a beautiful way to get lost in a highlander’s world full of passion, love and the beautifully portrayed Scotland.

Ms. Maya Banks: It was a pleasure to meet you.

 Narration

You can’t have an amazing audio experience without the help of a talented narrator, and Kirsten Potter once again delivers another excellent performance. I loved her in Darkness Dawns, and now I’m totally impressed with her ability to deliver with authenticity a Paranormal Romance, as well as, a Historical Romance.

I loved the expert approach and eased in which she transports you to the world she’s narrating, I always know when I’m listening to a top notch narrator, because their voice becomes lost in the background and it’s just you, the characters and their story, it’s almost as if you were placed right in the middle of the story, and the fact that the novel is being read to you goes completely unnoticed.

Every voice and accent was expertly delivered; the character’s personality came to life in very authentic and believable manner.

No need to slow or speed this one at all, it was just perfect
