When I first started reading Cassie Palmer back in 2009, I love the series. I loved spending time with Cassie, Rafe, Mercia, Pritkin, Casanova, Billy Joe and the rest of the gang. There is a great mix of mythologies and historical characters including bring Bram Stoker, Kit Marlone, Rasputin, Vlad Dracula, Apollo, Ares and more.

So, if you’re not familiar with this series, you don’t want to start here. You will be completely lost. You need to start with book one. Cassie starts off as a girl running from the vampire family who raised her. She is a seer, but as the series goes on, she learns that she isn’t just any ole’ seer, she has much more than reading fortunes for tourist in her future.

As per normal for a Cassie Palmer book, there is a lot going on in this book. Cassie is working with Rosier, king of the Incubus, to try to save Pritkin. They are traveling way back in time to do this. Cassie is really upsetting the Pythias of the past. There is also some stuff that Cassie learns about Mircea. She also learns more about her own past, as in her parents who died when she was very young.

There are some things that are finally wrapped up in this story. I was glad to see that story arc finally come to an end. Another things about Cassie Palmer books, they give new meaning to fast paced. I get exhausted by the end of the story. I can’t imagine how Cassie does it. One thing that surprises me every time I read it, it has only been a few months since this story started. Because the books are long and I’ve been reading them for years, I forget that it has only been months for Cassie. Part of that is all the time she spends in the past. Oh, last, if you’re fans of the Dorina Basarab series. She makes an appearance at the end of this book.

Ride the Storm Audiobook Narration

4 Hearts

Jorjeana Marie has narrated the last two books in this series. While, I’m not happy with the number of narrators that have read for this series (Jorjeana Marie is the third). I do enjoy her narration. I’m glad that they stuck with her. I hope she continues to narrate this series. I like her better than the second narrator. There is a large cast of characters and she does a great job. She does well with this very fast paced book.

Author: Karen Chance

Karen Chance is the author of two New York Times bestselling series, plus a number of novellas and short stories, all set in the Cassandra Palmer universe. A full-time writer since 2008, she was previously a university history teacher, which comes in handy when writing the time-travel aspect of Cassie’s crazy adventures. She loves Las Vegas, the main setting for her novels, but currently lives in Florida near her family home.

From quirky comedienne to startling indie actress, Jorjeana’s roles have varied extensively. Her most recent role, as the tormenting ex-girlfriend in “Listen to Grandpa, Andy Ling” starring Eliott Gould and Randall Park (Dinner for Schmucks) has propelled her forward, stretching from the usual sweet and funny to “hilariously disturbed”.

The story is by Jason Venokur from “Third Rock from the Sun” and produced by Rafael Marmor, also producer of the comedy series “Svetlana”, which stars a variety of Hollywood’s elite comedians as well.

As a veteran stand-up comic, Jorjeana has opened for some renowned talent, including Louis Anderson, Richard Lewis and Louis CK. And after penning three one-woman shows and performing them throughout NYC, it’s an easy move to begin filming some of these characters from her stand-up routine and solo shows. Jorjeana’s next multi-hyphenate project “Over Due” is a cross between a Tracy Ullman show and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and focuses on her ability to create a variety of smart, funny and distinct females and one Sarah Palin.

Additional roles include a lead voice-over role in an untitled Steven Spielberg project, hosting ‘Date Night’ on AMC, regular hosting ops at the Hollywood Improv, a role her mother hasn’t yet seen on ‘Chapelle’s Show’ and a fully improvised part in Ashton Kutcher’s “True Beauty’ on ABC.

As an improvisor she has studied and performed at UCB, the Groundlings and Improv Olympic West.  She is a member of The Popular Mechanics and Cupcake Comedy.

She is involved in many charitable organizations as a host and comedienne including: Gilda’s Club, Comedy Cures, Comedy Fights Cancer, Paul Newman’s Double H hole in the Wall, The Hollywood Arts Society and BookPals.

  1. This is definitely an author I want to try more of. I did try one of her books and loved it but for some reason kind of forgot about her. I should pick her up again.
    Great honest review for this!

  2. I have heard good things about this series, but at 22 hours – that’s a long freakin’ book. And three different narrators? That says to me there were issues… what is going on?!

    • The original narrator isn’t narrating any more. Every series that I know she was doing has a new narrator. It was a shame because I really liked her. The second one was okay, but I like this current one better. It is a really long book. The first several are more normal lengths and then the most recent books have been longer.

  3. great review Melanie and yes I know what you mean about exhausting I sometimes feel that way about the Kinsey Millhone books by Sue Grafton I’ve been reading her for over 20 years but its much shorter a time period for the novels.

  4. 22 hours! That is a massive listen. I have heard some great things about this series, but have yet to try it. I need to find some more UF as many of my favorites are ending. This looks like a good bet.

  5. I left off awhile back and have no clue what book I didn’t read *sigh* At this point I don’t remember much and would probably have to reread. I think I’ll check if my library has the audiobooks <333

  6. Yes!!! So exhausting, but yet I keep going back for more. LOL
It was so fun to finally have that scene with Dorina and seeing some stuff start to wrap up instead of spinning in circles.

Glad the narrator is holding strong for you. Wow, three for the series would be a hard adjustment.

  7. I’m a little late in this series I stopped at book 3… yeah late but I have book 4 and 5

    • It is so easy to get behind on series. The only reason I’m not more behind on some is because I refused to start new series for a year (and almost succeeded, I think I only started two LOL). But now I have so many series I want to start that I’m behind on. *sigh*

  8. Wow! Are all her books that long? I can’t imagine the pace for that long of a period. I will have to give her a try!

  9. One day I will try one of her books…one day

  10. OKAY, this is really why I came here….. SOOOOOO, this book is sitting, weighing down my book shelf. I’ve been giving it the evil eye for months. Your review is totally spot on and I don’t even need to read this book. But you mentioned Billy Joe and I miss him terribly. Where are the characters of old? Why can’t she just rescue Pritkin and be DONE with it???? I’m still burned from the last tomb taking an entire book to let me down at the end. I had so much mad love for this series back in, jeez, the same time you did!!!!!!!! But where are my tattoos with powers? Where is my Billy?

*sigh* I have serious issues… Should I read this or not??? Will I need therapy at the end? 😉

    • Well, Billy makes an appearance. The tattoos make an appearance. I can tell you that the storyline you’re sick of reading comes to a close (finally), but does take the entire book. I’ve really enjoyed this series, but I ready for it to come to an end. I want to see how it all wraps up.
