The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region – until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren’t aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders: are the vampires of Tahoe cursed with a plague?
Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha’s family to keep the region safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and oh yeah, not lose her heart to the wrong guy-or die a miserable death. Because now that the evil behind the plague knows who Celia is, it’s coming for her and her sisters. This Wird girl has never had it so tough.

My thoughts

Story – B

I have to mention how excited I was  when I found out that  the Sealed with a Curse audiobook was soon to be released.
This was another recommendation from my friend Angela at UTC; in fact, you can read her review HERE. I had already bought the Kindle copy, but I couldn’t get to it,  my life got busy, and I had a hard time finding the time to sit and read it. Well, I’m so glad I waited 🙂 – Now I got another great series I can follow with my ears.

Growing up as humans hidden from the supernatural world, the sisters have always felt different, and weird is the perfect word, but they are about to find the place where they have belong all their lives. So, a notice to all vampires, werewolves, and to all supernatural creatures, there’s a pack of new girls in town!!!  Their names are Celia, Emma, Shayna and Taran.
And notice, they take!
The book opens up with our girls on trial in a vampire court for the killing of one of their own who belonged to  Misha Aleksander’s family (vampire master), but soon is discovered how the girls acted in self defense.
The reason why this vampire needed to be kill will force some sort of alliance between Celia (the oldest and front heroine for this novel) and the handsome and super hot, vampire Misha. But of course things won’t be easy, there’s another hottie in the picture, Aric Cornner, the alpha of a local werewolves pack that has a completely different opinion about the alliance, and how they should proceed to solve their current problem. This sets the tone for an incredible and super exciting ride that wont let you go until you reach the end.
Cecy Robson has not only introduce 4 terrific and kick-ass  heroines, but a whole cast of characters that you will be dying to know more about.
The  world building is amazing, and Ms. Robson’s writing will put you right smack in the middle of it. I loved how each sister bring something exciting and at times challenging to the story.
The love story won’t be an easy one, and the sexual tension is off the charts!!  With two  terrific alpha males in the picture, there’s plenty to be entertained about.
I love the dialogue – these chicks are crazy, and the times you are not biting your nail from the suspense you will be cracking up with their humor.
All in all, a terrific debut for Cecy Robson. I’m downloading the second book as we speak 🙂

Narration

C+

When I started listening to the audiobook I had my doubts about the narration, I thought Renee Chambliss sounded a little young for Celia, but my doubts were quickly forgotten when I began to get into the story.
She’s does and OK job with all the different characters. I would  have liked  to have heard a little bit more urgency in her tone when it came to the suspenseful  parts, although I had no problem getting the sentiment, I felt it came more from the writing than from her performance, but I prefer  to have the emotions down played than over the top, which is never the case here.
I did like a lot the way Celia’s personality came through, and since this book is Celia’s point of view, it made it an easy listen.
Now for the male voices, I have to say she’s got some more work to do, they are not horrible or terribly distracting, but there’s a lot room for improvement, let’s just say she gets a B for the female voices, pace and tone, but only a C- for the male voices, they kind of took a little authenticity from novel. When I read about these hot alpha males I want their voices to reflect their hotness, and a forced accent will definitely take that away. With that said, I did enjoyed the audiobook – I never felt the need to switch to my Kindle version.
This is only the first is the series, so I’m hoping my experience with the narration will be a lot better with the next book.

My preferred speed for this novel, 1.5.
