Publisher’s Summary

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. His human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Brought back against his will, he became the sole defender of mankind.
Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wants revealed – until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.
Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers, and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both. War has never been more deadly…or more fun.

My Thoughts

I had been dying to listen to this novel since the day it came out back in 2008, but since I had  only  listened to the  first 6 books in the series I decided not to jump right to it  and wait until I was all caught up; well, 5 years had gone by and I have yet listened to them, not that the novels aren’t good; in fact, Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors, and I love, love the Dark Hunter series, but with  all the new fabulous releases on audio I found it impossible the catch up.
A bout 2 months ago I was in a terrible reading/listening slump, and after reading a fantastic review @ Yummy Man and Kick Ass Chicks, I decided it was finally time to jump into this extremely  anticipated  story of the most enigmatic and mysterious hero of  the Dark Hunter series. To say that, in the first half of this audiobook, Mrs. Kenyon will take your heart out and crush it…then….Rinse and repeat, it’s a total understatement.
This was one of the most  heart wrenching and deeply emotional  journeys through  the formative years of a beloved hero I have ever experienced,  and to be honest there were times I just couldn’t listen, I had to pause to catch my breath to be able to continue, but like they say, if you want a rainbow you have to put up with the rain, only in this case it felt more like a tsunami, and it kind of made it impossible to have the kind the rainbow you would expect in the end; nevertheless, I thoroughly adored every second of its 24 hrs, and I never wanted it to be over.

In an epic and beautifully written story, we are taken back to the day Acheron was born, and   we get privy to the immense sacrifice his mother had to make to keep him safe, unbeknown  to her the horrible fate that awaited her little one.

Kudos to Mrs. Kenyon for making  me feel such raw emotions that altogether and utterly transported my mind and my heart to her world,  and for giving me a true understanding of what made Acheron, ACHERON.

I don’t think I could be 100% satisfied with any woman that could earn Acheron’s heart, after everything he has gone through you find it impossible to think there’s a woman that deserves him, but Mrs. Kenyon does a pretty good job at paring him  with an extremely likable heroine, and developing a love story that almost….almost delivers the perfect rainbow.
I can’t recommend this audiobook enough; I only wish I’d listened to  all the previous books before I got to this one, I think the longer you get to know Acheron, the more you will enjoy this tittle;  however, I’m still placing it as one my top five favorite audiobooks ever.

The Narrator

Holter Graham

Narration

There is a reason Holter Graham, is among my favorite narrators, and this novel is a clear example of his talent. The way he conveys the feeling and the deep emotions of the first half of this book is nothing short of phenomenal; he brings this story to life without sparing you for a second the heart-wrenching mood of the novel. The array of voices and perfect interpretations, paired with his acting ability place you right in the middle of the story, and allows you to experience the novel with raw emotions and the true intentions behind the written word.

All in all, this is a fantastic performance; I highly recommend this audiobook to be enjoy as part of the Dark Hunter series.
