Ah, the end of this amazing series. I purchased this book as soon as I finished the previous book, Entrapment. Entrapment ended with a big cliffhanger and I just had to know what happened. I rarely read multiple books in the same series back to back, but there was no choice here. I can’t recommend that you have this final book ready to start as soon as you finish book four.

So, this story wraps up the story for Alex and Nox. I don’t want to go into details because each story builds on the previous story (which means read the series from start to finish, don’t jump around and plan to read entire series to get the full story and to the HEA). There is a ton of suspense about how Alex and Nox will get their happily ever after. What is to come of Brice and his mother and Alex’s step-father? Who will come out on top?

There is no question in my mind from the first book that Alex is willing to walk away from everything to not fall her her step-father’s trap, but he has ways of getting his way. As a powerful man in Savannah, he can get his way most of the time. But Alex is no weakling and she’s very smart. She will play along for a time to get what she wants as she plans how to get to her end-goal.

This series was quite the thrill ride. You never know what will get in Alex’s search for happiness. Every time you think she has everything figured out, her step-father finds an even worse idea. He is a desperate man, trying very hard to hold on to his power.

I can’t do this series justice without giving away too many details. Just know that if you like to read a series that is full of steamy scenes, suspense, family deception and power plays, this is a great series for you. This series follows the romance of Alex and Nox from start to finish. Both have very complex lives and family dynamics which seek to thwart their happiness.

I love that we also get an extended epilogue for this series. I think it was three chapters?? Anyway, after all the suspense and heartbreak that it took to get to this point, I was glad to have a little extra time with ending.

**note: I realize the title of the series and the titles for some of the books make it sound like there is cheating and coercion, but this does not exist between the main characters, Alex and Nox. I know that is a hard line for a lot of people and I don’t want people to avoid this series because of that reason. You have nothing to worry about there.

I don’t know what I can say about Samantha Prescott and Brian Pallino that I haven’t already said in previous reviews for this series. I thought they did really good job with narrations. They each had multiple POVs that they had to tackle. They did an amazing job with male and female voices. I love the pacing and tone. I would highly recommend either of them again.

I’m Melanie and I live in Ohio. I have two horses and a dog. I’m an animal lover, avid book reader and audiobook listener. I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. My favorite paranormal creatures are shifters, doesn’t matter the flavor.

  1. This doesn’t sound like your normal genre… Is straight up Romance a new thing for you or do you just get distracted with dragons and aliens too often 🙂 Five books is a pretty big commitment for one couple! I don’t know if I could have been so patient. You rock!!! And great non-spoilery review, too!!

    • It isn’t my normal genre, but I do listen to some more contemporary romances. I really like this author along with Tiffany Reisz and Skye Warren (there are a few others that I mix in there). These authors have a dark undertone (at least that is the best way I can describe it in a few words) that I really like.

I loved this story of Alex and Nox. I didn’t realize that it was one love story through all five books, but I still loved every book (I think I rated them all 4 or 4.5 stars). There is a lot going on besides just the romance.

  2. How have I not heard of this series yet? Because it definitely sounds like one I need to have on my kindle reader.

    • Look up Betrayal on Amazon. The Kindle version is currently free. It grabbed me from the beginning.

    • She writes some pretty steamy romance with some very interesting mystery around it. It is really hard to put her stuff in a genre. I really love her writing style.

  3. I have this audio series on my wishlist thanks to you. I loved her romantic suspense duology. Looks like I need to hurry up and listen!

    • This was a really good series. I really loved the mystery surrounding Alex and Nox and their families. Probably closer to The Bourbon Thief than The Light series.

  4. I have been curious about this one. I think I need to try it. I also love a 3 chapter epilogue… especially when the book is this good. Yep, you have me curious!

    • I really enjoyed this series. I don’t read a lot of contemporary romances and the idea that this one last five books is completely different, but I loved this story. I hope you get a chance to try it.

  5. Funny how sometimes we hate cliffhangers, but other times we MUST get the next book immediately! And what an epilogue, good to see you get good closure for Alex and Nox.

    • If I wasn’t able to get the next book immediately, I would’ve been very angry. Since I was, it didn’t bother me as much. 🙂

  6. I just can’t… any book with a “FSOG” cover are no longer an option for me. haha.

    • I’ve never read FSOG. I tried a two book series by this author called The Light. I really loved it. It was a mystery romance about a cult and a cop that was investigating said cult. I loved it, so I tried some of her other stuff. I completely get the FSOG thing though. I tend to shy away from most billionaire/BDSM (though there is almost no BDSM in this book) type stories.

  7. Both new to me narrators. I’ll have to add them to my list 🙂

    • They both did a really great job with this series. Great Southern accents.
