My thoughts

Unbeautifully is the second entry in the series Undeniable. We got introduced to  Danny and Ripper, in the first book, Undeniable.

Like its predecessor, this is  an intense, heart wrenching, ugly, messy,  and  just like Ripper, not  pretty at all. But once again, Madeline Sheehan made it impossible for me to look away.

These guys are bikers, and they don’t live by the same rules we do, nor do they love by the same rules, but LOVE they do.

The book begins right where we left off in the previous book, and the none stop emotional turmoil  begins; the author hardly gives you time to breathe. I didn’t know there were different kinds of suspense until I read/listened to Undeniable, and now Unbeautifully.

While Duce and Eva are busy with problems of their own, they have no idea that the club princess, Duce’s beautiful Daughter, Danny, is living a drama of her own.

Danny is considered a treasure by  all the members of the club. Not in a million years would they dare to go after the daughter of the PRESIDENT –  but fate can be cruel, and when the little princess finds herself totally and unconditionally  in love with the once gorgeous, but now scarred (inside in out)  Ripper  Jacobs, things will get a little over complicated – to put it mildly.

With a relationship from hell, we get a love story that will put your heart trough the wringer, and as unsightly as this story gets, you’ll find it impossible to put it down.

With that, the author takes us in another raw, gritty and ugly ride. These two are not supposed to be together. Ripper is the enforcer of the club, and as such, he has lived a life of violence and crime. He’s volatile personality is a sharp contrast to sweet Danny, and that is a great making for incredible chemistry and dynamics.

I should hate these books, I should hate these characters… I really should, but instead I found myself devouring them when I read them, and once again when I listened.

I won’t recommend Unbeautifully to everybody,  specially if your sensibilities can easily be offended by the use of violence, foul language, and disrespect for women.  On the other hand, if  you don’t mind taking a ride to a wild world full vexed and angsty alpha males, where the drama is none stop, and your emotions will twist your heart in and out, then by all means, you have to  listen/read UNDENIABLE and UNBEAUTIFULLY

If you’re a fan of the TV show, SONS of ANARCHY, then these books are a must!

Unbeautifully Audiobook Narration

By Tatiana Sokolov

Once again, narrator Tatiana Sokolov brings the story to life with all the intensity and fierceness  the book demands.

The characters are kept with constancy, most of the voices were age and gender appropriate, with the exception of Danny, I think she sounded a bit old,  but  you settle so quickly into the story that you hardly get a chance to notice.

Her interpretation inspires the right emotions. She gives Unbeautifully the proper ambiance, and for the time she’s reading she’ll take away without any distractions.

All in all, this is another good performance by Tatiana Sokolov, and just as good as her performance of Undeniable – you can read my review of the narration HERE

  1. I L-O-V-E these books! But you are right–I should H-A-T-E these books, LOL! Have you read Kristen Ashley? She elicits the same kind of response (but she’s no where near as gritty and dark). And Sons of Anarchy is the perfect comparison. Glad the audio was as enjoyable as the hardcopy 🙂

    • Hahah! I had no idea I would get into this books the way I did, but damn if the author doesn’t know how to pull you in!..LOL like a car wreck, you know is gonna be ugly, but still want to see..LOL

  2. I’ve been wanting to read this books but I’ve been put off by others use of the words “dark”, “gritty” and “ugly”. However, no one will come out and directly say how it is all of these things. Does it contain rape, graphic violence, domestic violence–I would like to know what trigger it will pull before I start. Some things I can skip and still enjoy the story but others I would have to avoid altogether.

    • You right! I did mentioned more about it in my review of Undeniable. I just changed the review to include some of the things that can be objectionable. No Rape, I’d mentioned that, no domestic violence, although they can be violent towards each other. It’s mostly the way they treat women, they can cheat, call the woman names, and the morals in their world are very skewed. They are Bikers…So just what you imagine. But they are love stories.

  3. Great review. I feel the same way, like half the time I should be offended, but damn I love it. 😛 I can’t wait for her next book.

    • Me too girl! Yeah, we really should be offended by these macho men…LOL It all comes down to writing I think, the epilogue in this book is awesome!

  4. As you know, I don’t really read Contemporary Romance, but I still like checking out your reviews in case the narrator does a paranormal series as well. I get easily offended by story lines that feature elements of disrespect towards women, so this one’s probably not for me. Great review all the same. Thanks!

    • Hahaha! Carmel, I’ very aware of the way you like to get your reading high, I wouldn’t recommend this to you, but I was just like you, and then I crossed to the dark side..LOL

    • Thank you Steph 🙂 These books are that indeed, very interesting to say the least.

  5. I have seen these books literally on just about EVERY blog I visit. I hear great things about Madeline and her characters, and the emotional content. My problem is they are just soooo very dark. Not just with these books but with a lot of NA. I really don’t like getting invested in a book that makes me want to play in rush hour traffic. Your review makes a compelling argument for giving these a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

    • I’d have thought you had jumped all over these ones. I didn’t think these were for me either, but took a shot and downloaded the first chapter for free on amazon, well, I didn’t look back. The author got me right away.

  6. Glad you enjoyed it Loupe! I loved book one but this one fell a bit short for me. I really liked Ripper but was meh on Danny and her actions. Still need to grab the next one. Ahh the tbr pile! lol

    • You know? I rated these books higher after listened. I think the narrator does such good job with these book that earned the book an extra .5 star. I know all about the TBR pile ;(

      • Oh interesting. I’ve wondered about that on some and the other way around too. I listened to one not too long ago and think I may have been way better off reading it than listening (everyone sounded exactly the same from old men to 8 year olds lol)

        • Oh, definitely a narrator can completely butcher a good book too.
That’s terrible, I hope is not one I recommended..LOL There are a lot new untrained narrator cuz the demand is so big now. You learn real quick the good ones and the bad ones. Sorry it wasn’t a good experience 🙁

          • Oh no definitely wasn’t one you recommended. The author was coming about an hour away so I grabbed a copy of her book at the used bookstore to listen to during the drive. Figure just like with printed books some will be a flop and ya just move on from there 🙂

Next drive I need to do I’ll grab something else and give it a go 🙂

  7. Ooooo I hate that I love books and characters that I should hate. lol – did you follow that? I’m so freaking curious about this series. Off to investigate the first book …

    • LOL Chisty! I follow you. Take a shot with the first free chapter at amazon, that’s what I did, and I never stop, I downloaded the book right away.

  8. I found book 1 absolutely addicting! I haven’t had the chance to read this one yet. I do watch Sons of Anarchy. Great review, Loupe!

    • LOL, there you go! I had no desire to watch that show until I read these books, and then I went on a marathon..I’m all caught up now 🙂
      Thank you!

  9. I still have this one to read. I’ll probably pick it up sometime this year…needed to take a break from the biker romances. But I’m interested to see how the relationship between Danny and Ripper play out. Great review Loupe!

    • Oh! let me know what you think if do, I’ll keep my eyes open for your review if I see you’re reading it.

      Thank you Sharonda 🙂

  10. I would cringe on the sexist parts, these men can be douchebags but oddly enough, I can tolerate the disrespect in book 1. But I can only take it in small doses which explains why I haven’t read this one yet.

    • They are a bunch of duchebags; in fact, I think a duchegbag has more class..LOL To me they are like a car wreck, you know is gonna be ugly, but you can’t stop yourself from watching, and in the end I feel good about my life being so different.

  11. I just started watching Sons of Anarchy yesterday lol. This sounds right up my alley right now 😀

    • LOL Lily, So maybe you’ll have an idea of what you getting your’self into. I didn’t think I ever wanted to read anything with a biker’s theme, but after reading the book I went on a marathon of SOA..lol If you do read the fist book, let me know your thoughts 🙂

  12. I really have to take a chance on this book. =) Great review!

    • I don’t know Angela, you have your limits, But you can read the first chapter and see if it does what it did to me.. Continue reading..lol

  13. This book looks interesting. I don’t do a huge amount of contemporary, but when I do, it is usually pretty dark. I’ll have to keep this one in mind if I ever dig myself out from under by TBR pile. Great review.

    • Do you watch Sons of Anarchy? If you do, then you’ll be fine with it, but I recommend starting with Undeniable first.

      • I’ve never watched SoA. I’ve thought about it a few times, but never got around to it. I would start with book one, but I don’t know when I will have time. Too many books and too little time. 🙂

  14. Alrighty my friend you have me curious, and I will add to my list. I already used my credit and then bought another audio this month..soon my audio tbr pile will be as big as my book and ebook piles. *hangs head*

    • LOL Kimba! I know exactly what you mean, I used to go around and read reviews and what I like to my TBR to wait for the audio..but no more! I click on a book and there’s the audio..LOL They are killing me! I need more ears!

  15. I love me some broken and messed up characters so this sounds like a great read. I’m just hoping it’s not in the NA category of contemporary romance…LOL I can’t take a whinny leading lady but by the sound of your review I don’t think there are any. Adding it to my list! Thanks Loupe 😉

    • They don’t get more messed up than this..LOL and NO, this is definitely not NA, it might be too adult for some..LOL
If you do read it, remember the first book (order is a must, I think) is Undeniable.

      • Great! I’ll definitely read them. I’m OCD about my reading order so I wouldn’t jump to book two…haha

  16. I’m all about the emotional turmoil! I guess I need to go check out book 1. I’m thrilled to hear the narration is good, adding to my audible wishlist!

    • If you decide to listen I hope you really enjoy it, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts 🙂
