Urban Fantasy 3

Why I love this series.

The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning it’s one of my favorite series of all time. With the upcoming release of BURNED, the newest addition to this dark, sexy, mysterious, agonizing and all around BRILLIANT world, I decided to do a re-listen of the Iced (last installment) to savor the feeling of being in this universe once again.

There are times that my imperfect knowledge of the English language leaves me frustrated with my inability to put into words my feelings. This is such a case, but to be honest, I can summarize it in five words: This series is PLAIN AWESOME!!

This is the world in which my favorite and #1 alpha male, Jericho Barrons, was created…Yeah, my feelings!

If you love Urban Fantasy with a dash of romance, mystery, suspense, and the perfect and most delicious sexual tension ever created, look no further than the Fever Series.

Fever is one of the few series that I have truly and equally enjoyed in both formats (print and audio). If you are an audiobook fan and haven’t had the opportunity to indulge in this fantastic tale, there is no better time than now.

If you start now, you won’t have to endure the most agonizing cliffhangers ever the way I did. This is why I’m going to warn you, the beginning of each novel is a spoiler. If you have not read the series, do yourself a favor and skip listening to the samples after book 1.

Fever Series Audiobok Narration

I’ll be the first one to tell you, I’m not a very good judge of a regional southern accent, but I can positively tell you is how much I enjoyed the interpretation by Ms. Bean. Even though, at first her voice may appear too old to portray a 22 year- old, those thoughts are quickly forgotten within a few minutes of her delivery. On the other hand, you might not ever get over it, and so I recommend listening to the longer sample before you make your decision.

Ms. Bean beautifully conveys the darkness, danger and the perplexity of this world. She also does a good job bringing Mac’s character to life with the perfect amount of vulnerability innocence and courage, without overlooking the spoil manner in which sometimes she comes across. After all this is Mac 1.0

Her male voices are OK and her interpretation of Barrons is acceptable. I definitely got the darkness and complexity, as well as, the oozing sex appeal this character possesses.

All in all, she does an good job. My opinion comes from having listened to the audiobook prior to reading the printed copy. I can’t say how I would feel if it were the other way around.

One more thing I have to point out is how much better this series gets with each additional novel. You might find the first book just meh- and may be a little disappointed with the narration; stick with it, I can assure you, it only gets better and better.

Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross

Now, for my favorite book and the series, DREAMFEVER, plus Shadowfever and Iced, we get treated to what I wish every romance novel should do, and that is to be read by a female and male narrator.

I mean, the dialog being performed simultaneously.

Natalie Ross does an excellent job with the more mature, wiser and older Mac, so the change of voice in the middle of a series (I normally don’t like that) goes hardly noticed. She also does a good job at placing you right in the middle of the action.

What can I say about Phil Gigante?! Oh my!!! He is perfect! His deep and sexy voice is just what you imagine our dark, sexy hero to sound like.

Overall, these two talented narrators bring these last three novels to life and in a way that lets you experience them with all the emotions by their flawless interpretation of the stories and characters. I can honestly say, the narration moves these two novels up a notch, and makes them a fabulous listening experience.

If you haven’t discovered this enthralling and downright addictive Urban Fantasy, you are in for a treat!

  1. I haven’t read Iced but I’m so curious about Burned. I love the series. thanks for the giveaway!

    • Isn’t awesome! I’d strongly recommend listening to Iced first before moving to Burned. The story (besides a supper sexy introduction) pretty much takes off after the events of Iced, and you’d be a little lost if you you didn’t read it/listen to it.
I loved this series on audio! And I really hope you do too.
      GOOD LUCK!

    • OMG! Nereyda! I will gift you the first book even if you don’t win…You know how it is when we you love a book..There’s no better feeling than that, because you just don’t gift a book, you gift an experience. I will still hope that you listen to same book I did, not a different one..lol..A risk we all run when highly recommending a book 🙂 The first book is OK, but the ride gets so much better 🙂

  2. I love this series. I was a bit sad when I learned that the narrator had changed for the series, but after listening to Phil Gigante (and Natalie) read, I was even more hooked. I read first and then listen.

      • I think it’s because I didn’t like how Faefever ended with that scene with the unseely, so it took a while for me to even read Dreamfever and I just never read the next one..lol. Now I am a afraid I don’t remember enough to finish but I will read Shadowfever this year it’s on my reading assignment challenge..lol. I do miss Barons though!! 🙂

    • Audio might do the trick! I always tell my friends that Darkfever didn’t blow me away, but after reading all the first 5 book I went back and changed my rating on Darkfever. Not a lot romance, it’s pretty much a straight UF until book 4..Then we get some hot scenes 🙂

  5. I read the first five some time ago and was awed b/c it was one of my first UF series. It would be fun to make a re-read by listen to it on audio. I think I would be okay with her voice being older. It’s the opposite that would distract me more.

    • I really enjoyed Mrs. Bean’s narration, but I like to warn peeps about the voice. I never read the book before I listened (I did after). Some peeps thought she sounded to old, and I never understood their grief until I read it. My brain automatically gave Mac a younger voice when I read 22, plus her attitude.
I never had any problems with Dreamfever, Shadow fever and Ice. I hope you enjoy them on audio, I LOVED them 🙂
      Good Luck!

  6. Agree, this series is simply outstanding! I’m dying to get my hands on Burned. Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. OMG, OMG, OMG this is the bestest series ever!!! The End!
No wait I have to tell you a little story about the marvelous Ms. Moning and I. I was a fan of hers way back from her romance/fantasy beginnings then she gets all quiet and hints to us about her new series, not romance she says, darker she says and wham she hits us with Darkfever and it’s nothing like what I’ve read before and it’s the reason I now love urban fantasy the darker the better. My world was never the same again. Thanks for this FANTASTIC review Loupe you ROCKED it! Oh and just in case you’re interested I’d sell my soul for Jericho Barrons! 🙂
    xo
