Chicadoland Vampires series,  book # 2

Whispersyn for Voice-ready

You’d think headlines like that would have provoked the fine citizens of the Windy City to take up arms against us bloodsucking fiends. Instead, ten months later, we’re enjoying a celebrity status reserved for the Hollywood elite—fending off paparazzi only slightly less dangerous than cross and stake-wielding slayers. Don’t get me wrong, Joe Public isn’t exactly thrilled to be living side-by-side with the undead, but at least they haven’t stormed the castle yet.

But all that will change once they learn about the Raves—mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle and drink themselves silly. Most civilized vampires frown on this behavior, putting mere mortals at ease with their policy of asking a person’s consent before taking a big gulp of the red stuff. However, that doesn’t make good copy for a first time reporter looking to impress his high society family.

So now my “master,” the centuries old, yet gorgeously well-preserved Ethan Sullivan, wants me to reconnect with my own upper class family and act as liaison between humans and vampires—and keep the more unsavory aspects of our existence out of the media. But someone doesn’t want people and vamps to play nicey-nice—someone with an ancient grudge.

My Thoughts

Friday Night Bites audiobook is the second entry to the Chicagoland Vampires series and it takes place a few months after the end of Twice Bitten.

Merit finally moves to the Cadogan House and assumes her role as Sentinel. She continues to work on her training, learning about the supernatural world and what it means to be a vampire.
The villain of Some Girls Bite has gotten off with a slap on the wrist and she’s back causing trouble, and on top of it, there’s a journalist threatening to expose some of  the vampire-kind’s less savory secrets to the public, the politics are starting to unfold.
I’m really liking this series, I love sexual tension. Can I say it again? I love sexual tension, one of my biggest adrenalin rushes comes from anticipation. (yea that’s me!,) and this book is full of it, I really like the heroine, and I’m enjoying the secondary characters, but I’ can’t help holding back from getting too invested and attach due to the fact that I found out about a big spoiler coming out in book 4, I know!! Really!! I know!!! you’re not supposed to read when the headliner got in big letters “SPOILERS” but I’m horrible that way, I’m in the group that read the 2 leaked chapters of Shadowfever ( last book of the Fever series ) before the book came out.. lol, with all of this I’m glad I listened to it, not sure if I’ll listen to the next book before Drink Deep (book # 5) comes out.
Forgetting all of the above, this was very entertaining, and even knowing what’s coming I’d still listen to it. I like that Merit has developed her sense of self more in this book, she still has a big conflict in the romance department. The Morgan/Ethan drama, in my opinion is due to the fact that Ethan might just be bipolar… Go ahead just shoot me..:), but  yeah! He’s so hot! who cares that he might be bipolar, I’ll take him all day long on his up moments… *wink*
I also enjoy the Mallory/Catcher‘s relationship, they are really good together, and is very interesting to read about Mallory’s development with her new powers.
The ending was great, and again if it wasn’t for my lack of self restrain, I would be picking the next book right away.
What I liked:
I love that Merit is a sassy, strong, honorable and a totally relatable protagonist
The conflict was not the only enjoyable aspect of this book, the secondary character are a great part of the enjoyment.
Merit/Ethan moments, I really take pleasure from how they challenge and question each other.
The relationships between the characters are also more fleshed out.
How hot, hot, and sexy Ethan’s character is.
I found very interesting the dissociation Merit feels from her vampire.
The ending hints at big things to come in the next installment.
This book delivers action, romance, laughter and intrigue.
All and all a very entertaining listen, I do recommend starting with the Some Girls Bite, the first book of this series.

Friday Night Bites Audiobook Narration

Cynthia Holloway has definitely grown into this character, she’s delivering Merit just as it was intended, displaying all the right tones for her sassiness, sarcasm and insecurities, making her into a very likable character, Ethan voice is growing on me, she’s has giving him the self confidence necessary to make him believable and sexy as ever, she also did a great job interpreting the rest of the character, again this the Cynthia I have come to know and enjoyed in other listens like Anita Blake and Claire from the Morganville Vampires series.
