He makes the rules…

Mafia enforcer Aleksandr “The Siberian” Sevastyan’s loyalty to his boss is unwavering, until he meets the boss’s long-lost daughter, a curvy, tantalizing redhead who haunts his mind and heats his blood like no other. Ordered to protect her, Sevastyan will do anything to possess her as well – on his own wicked terms.

Rules are made to be broken…

PhD student Natalie Porter had barely recovered from her first sight of the breathtakingly gorgeous Sevastyan before the professional hit man whisks her away to Russia, thrusting her into a world of extreme wealth and wanton pleasures. With every day she spends under his protection, she falls deeper under his masterful spell.

Are you ready to play?

Yet all is not as it seems. To remove Natalie from an enemy’s reach, Sevastyan spirits her into hiding. From an opulent palace in Russia to the decadent playgrounds of the mega-wealthy in Paris, the two lovers will discover that even their darkest – and most forbidden – fantasies can come true…

The Professional is a serial story, which means that it is a single story that is broken into parts.  This is part three of three.  In part one, we meet the two main characters Natalie and Sevastyan.  We also met Natalie’s biological father.  Part two, just like part one, ended in quite a cliffhanger and this book picks up right where that left off, in the sex club.

Sevastyan is very closed off from Natalie throughout most of beginning of this part of the book, much to Natalie’s frustration.  At one point, he starts to share what appears to be his past and then closes down again.  He has never been a relationship before, and has no idea what to do with it.

While I enjoyed this story overall, the build up and wait for part three left me wanting more.  Parts one and two were great, but then after waiting for the finale, I was just a little disappointed.  I wonder if I would have felt the same if I listened to the entire thing all at once.  I loved this book, but I think next time, I will wait until the entire thing is out and listen to it all at once, instead of in pieces like I did with this one.  I will probably go back and listen to this again in a few months and see if I still feel the same way.  I would recommend to anyone who likes a steamy romance with mild BDSM aspects.

The Professional  Audiobook- part 3  Narration by Kimberly Alexis

Kimberly Alexis does another great job with the narration.  There are some really emotional parts in this part of the story and she nails the emotions really well.  I was very impressed, once again, with her performance.

I like to thank Simon & Schuster Audio for proving me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

    • I think that going forward, I will do them all at once. It was still good, but I think I would’ve enjoyed this story better going straight through it.

      • I just can’t do the wait and honestly I just really don’t get the appeal of serials. From a business stand point I get it though LOL

Though after Indexing it will be awhile till I give a bundled version another try. The recapping in each new “release” drove me batty. Though this is just 3 parts so it wouldn’t have been as bad I am guessing.

        • This story doesn’t have any recapping at the beginning of the story. It is like they took a full story and cut it into thirds. I’m really glad about that, the recapping would’ve made me crazy I think.

  1. Well, I’m planning on reading all of the installments together, so if nothing else, I’ll be able to tell you if I thought the end was still a let down. And I’m sorry that it was . . . a let down I mean.

    • I still enjoyed the story, but yeah, it is kinda like reading a trilogy where the last book isn’t as good as you thought because the first two were so good (first thing that comes to mind is Hunger Game series, I thought first two were crack, but the third just wasn’t up to the first two). Let me know what you think about it all together. I’m going to go back and do them all again soon. I just don’t know when I’ll be able to fit it in.

    • Your welcome.

  2. Listening to this one now. I’m feeling quite a bit frustrated with the characters, more so in this part than in the others.

    • I agree. I found the characters more frustrating this part as well.

  3. I have so been panting after this book but opted to hold off until it comes out in print together. I’m just not able to do the serials with my memory and impatience. lol

Will be interesting to see what you think later on after trying it all together!

    • I hope you enjoy.

  4. Serial?! Bah! I wish they’d chill with those, because it just makes me NOT want to read them. -sigh- This sounds good, but it would have to be read as one.

    • The entire story is out now, so feel free to start reading this one. It is the first story that I’ve tried as a serial that wasn’t just posted on a blog. I would rather read the entire story at once.

  5. I’ve been wanting to read this but I’ve never read a serial and am too impatient to try…LOL Melanie, I can probably get why you feel the way you do about this installment vs. reading the entire book at once. Most reviews I’ve read have been positive so I’ll be adding it to my list…as a whole. Great review 🙂

    • As a whole, this was a great story. I think I would’ve liked it much better all together. I hope to be able to fit in a relisten of the entire story soon. I bet I will have a different rating for it then.

  6. I’m glad I didn’t start this set yet. I wanted to wait until all came out because I’m not patient enough for that lol

    • It is a three part series, and all parts are out now, so feel free to start. 🙂

  7. I’m an instant gratification kind of girl and frustration makes me a very NOT nice person. I love Kresley’s IAD series, but I was very timid about approaching this. All at once is definitely better. Like cake.(bet you thought I was going to say something else! Ha!)

    • This is the entire story, so feel free to start now. This is a great story, though it is much more erotica that the IAD series. I still think you should give it a try now that all parts are available.

  8. I think I mentioned it in your previous reviews that I’m not the biggest fan of this series. Like you I felt the build-up then was left asking “is that it?” in part 3. Plus I still have issues with the whole D/s thing and how the heroine is this “virgin”, she probably gives better blow/hand jobs than the common bar wench you know what I mean? Ahhh I’ll stop my ranting here. I don’t think I’ll be reading the next one.

    • I think the reason the virgin thing didn’t bother me, is because she wasn’t an innocent virgin. She didn’t avoid sex, she just hadn’t found a partner for it yet, but I understand what you mean. The virgin thing is overdone, it just didn’t bother me in this case. From the way this read, the next book will be her friend, who is not a virgin, which will be good.

  9. Now that they’re all out…I’m adding it to my wishlist. Been wanting to read this for the longest.

    thanks for the review 🙂

    • I really hope you enjoy. I know I did.

    • I agree that this new trend in serials is not a great thing. I wish they would go back to just releasing full books.

The narrator for this is great. She also does the most of the Anita Blake books, but does a much better job with this series. I love the Russian accent.

  10. I’m still not sold on serials in audio or eBook, and I’m not a big reader of erotica. And, if the mood does strike, I’m going to pick a 5 star listen, not a 3.5. So yeah, pass. Thanks for doing the dirty work for me. 😉

    • Not a problem. I know stories like this aren’t for everyone. I’m hoping to find my next 5 star read soon. I’ve been reading a bunch of 3-3.5 lately.
