Best Audiobooks of 2014 Blog Hop 600x407

Yay! It’s that time of the year when audiobooks lovers get together to share those audiobooks that we absolutely loved the past year.

A big thanks my co-hosts, The Book Nympho and The Geeky Blogger ‘s Books Blog

This is always a hard choice to make! Last year we did three, this year we decided to go with five, and I still found it hard to do..LOL

This is a Hop and we have peeps that enjoy other genres besides my favorite (Romance), so I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s picks since I have decided to get out my box more often.

Here is my list of favorites for 2014

Check out Melanie’s choices  HERE

Historical R.
Lord of Scoundrels Audiobook

Tough-minded Jessica Trent’s sole intention is to free her nitwit brother from the destructive influence of Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain. She never expects to desire the arrogant, amoral cad. And when Dain’s reciprocal passion places them in a scandalously compromising, and public, position, Jessica is left with no choice but to seek satisfaction …

Damn the minx for tempting him, kissing him … and then forcing him to salvage her reputation! Lord Dain can’t wait to put the infuriating bluestocking in her place — and in some amorous position, And if that means marriage, so be it! — though Sebastian is less than certain he can continue to remain aloof … and steel his heart to the sensuous, headstrong lady’s considerable charms.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.”

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie…and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Historical F.
Written in my Own Heart Blood Audiobook

WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD is the eighth novel in the world-famous OUTLANDER series. In June of 1778, the world turns upside-down. The British army withdraws from Philadelphia, George Washington prepares to move from Valley Forge in pursuit, and Jamie Fraser comes back from the dead to discover that his best friend has married Jamie’s wife. The ninth Earl of Ellesmere discovers to his horror that he is in fact the illegitimate son of the newly-resurrected Jamie Fraser (a rebel _and_ a Scottish criminal!) and Jamie’s nephew Ian Murray discovers that his new-found cousin has an eye for Ian’s Quaker betrothed.

Meanwhile, Claire Fraser deals with an asthmatic duke, Benedict Arnold, and the fear that one of her husbands may have murdered the other. And in the 20th century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter Brianna is thinking that things are probably easier in the 18th century: her son has been kidnapped, her husband has disappeared into the past, and she’s facing a vicious criminal with nothing but a stapler in her hand. Fortunately, her daughter has a miniature cricket bat and her mother’s pragmatism.

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. 1. Wow, you featured some awesome audiobooks! I already entered the hop, but I wanted to see what you featured because I’m nosy. haha and I’m recently getting into audiobooks, since I spend so much time in the car now with work. 😀

    • Aren’t they great?! And every year it gets better and better. Now practically everything is coming out on audio, which is hard on my wallet, but I love it! ..LOL
      Thank you!

  2. I gave up on the Outlander series after the fourth book. Someday I’ll continue.
Right now I’m listening to the second book in the Kate Daniels series, I’m almost done and I’m loving it. 🙂

    • I loved them! And I look forward to every four years (LOL) being back with Claire and Jamie.
Kate Daniels rocks!! It makes my top ten every year. I’m glad you’re enjoying them even after having read them…That’s a good sign of a great interpretation.

  3. I enjoy reading your reviews and recommendations! Thanks for the giveaway! I’m listening to Katie Reus’ Protecting His Witness right now. I highly recommend Terry Spear’s World of Fae series for all ages… it’s a fun listen and her narrator is quite good. AND the Gods’ Trilogy by Debra Holland – it’s truly an epic adventure! I also really enjoyed Talon by Julie Kagawa in audio. I can’t wait for the next installment!

    • Thank you Linda! I’ll make sure to take a closer look at your recommendations. I’m always up for a great listen 🙂 I Listened to Talon last year, I really enjoyed too 🙂 I’ll be listening to next for sure!

    • Thanks Melanie! I hope 2015 is another great year for audiobooks 🙂

  4. Sebastian York was one of the best discoveries I made in 2014! I loved Tangled, as well as his parts in the Christina Laurens’ series. I’m hoping 2015 offers plenty of other opportunities for me to enjoy him! (I’m hoping he will be the narrator of Emma Chase’s new series out in April.) 😀

    • I was for me too!! I love him 🙂 I don’t know why I took me so long to listen to Tangled, I had on my phone like forever before I decided it to give it go.
I hope the narrates those too. I also really enjoy Decon Lee. He’s another great discovery I did in 2014.
I hope we have another great year 🙂

      • I’ve not heard of Decon Lee. Maybe I’ll check him out next. 🙂 Thanks for the rec.

  5. It was so hard to narrow down. Many on your list almost ended up mine (Lord of Scoundrels). It was such a good listening year 🙂

    • I knew it was gonna be one of my favorites when I finished listening. I waited forever for that audio. I read a long time ago in All about Romance how it was voted the #1 romance novel, so I was really looking forward to it.
I didn’t listen to a lot Historicals this past year like I normally do, it seems I spent a lot time with YA and NA novels. But I do truly love that genre, I hope to catch up with some I missed this year, like Laura Kinsale’s novels.

  6. Ooo, I bet the Diana Gabaldon audiobook was awesome! I haven’t read WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD yet, so will have to add it to my reading wishlist.

    • I loved them! I tried to read Outlander and I couldn’t get past the first 5 chapters, I picked up the audio and never looked back I listened to the first 6 novels back to back, then I had to wait the long wait for the following books…lol
I hope you Love Written on My Own Heart’s Blood as much as did 🙂

  7. A few of these are on my TBR, been forever since I read an ABishop book and her new series looks so good.

    • I hope you loved them like I did Lily. I love Anne Bishop, and The Others is phenomenal! If my list could have been longer it would have been there 🙂

  8. Awesome list! There are some new-to-me authors/narrators on there I’d like to try. I really need to listen to something Sebastian York has narrated! 🙂

    • Oh Grace! Tangled is so much fun! I really didn’t expect to like it the way I did, but I ended up loving it. Drew Evans is a hoot! And Sebastian York is awesomewith that book 🙂

  9. I really wanted to try the Kresley Cole on audio, I just didn’t know about listening after I had already read it. The audio has awesome reviews though, almost worth it. I definitely want to do Kate Daniels though.

    • I read the first 11 novels before they started coming out on audio, and I’d loved re-visiting them that way. Now I just get the audio. The narrator is top notch 🙂
Kate Daniel’s is awesome! I already know you Love Darynda’s books 🙂

  10. Thanks for hosting and for the additional chance to win. I have an addiction and need to feed it..LOL

    • I understand 🙂 I’m not missing any of these giveaways 😉

  11. I’m currently listening to Burn for Me and loving it (I read it when it came out). I’ve got two Julie Garwood highlander books coming up next and I just bought Lord of Scoundrels based on your list 😉

    • I loved Burned for me too! I had been waiting for Lord Scoundrels forever! I read a long time ago in All about Romance how it got voted it the #1 Romance Novel of all time, so I was very curious. I loved it! A solid Historical Romance. I really hope you love it too Patti 🙂

  12. I read Lord of Scoundrels and loved it and it is in my wish list to reread (audio) this time, Davinia Porter is amazing as a narrator and love her with this series. Tangled and Magic Breaks are in my wish list too, so all will be going higher up! Unfortunately I can’t access the Darynda Jones audiobooks on Audible – an example of a book without world rights!

    • That sucks Kathryn! I had no idea they weren’t available all over the world 🙁 Never thought of that.
I waited for a long time for Lord of Scoundrels, I had heard so many good things about it, and it didn’t disappoint, you’ll love the audio 🙂
I love Davina Porter! I love her work, she’s such a pro!
Tangle is a super fun listen! And Kate Daniels makes my favorites every year 🙂
I hope you get to listen to Darynda Jone’s audios soon, they are top notch!

  13. I have only listened to a few audiobooks so far. And really enjoying them. I’ll have to put a few of your list onto mine.

    • YAY for audiobooks! Believe me, they can turn into an addiction real quick, they are so convenient.
I hope I helped you discover some great listens 🙂

  14. Demon from the Dark sounds great, thanks for hosting.

    • It’s part of an awesome series, and all the books are fantastic. I had a hard time picking my favorite. Narrator Robert Petkoff is an amazing reader and I enjoy these books more than when I read them 🙂

  15. For the past year or two I’ve been really into audiobooks. Now they’re basically all I read. Isn’t Davina Porter amazing?

    • Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed them a lot too Megan 🙂 I read 3 books like year..LOL I used to read a lot more b/c they didn’t have everything on audio, but now since I can get my hands on almost every book on audio that’s all I do. I just used to do a lot relistening.
Davina Porter is amazing! She’s one those narrators that has become as important to me as any of the secondary characters in that series.
You should’ve shared with us your favorites 🙂

  16. interesting list of books

  17. I have heard of some of those books but not read any of them. I see you have Crown of Midnight on your list, I am currently listening to Throne of Glass and it’s been pretty good. 🙂

    • I had a hard time with Throne of Glass 🙁 Specially with the narration, I thought the narrator made the heroine too arrogant, and I had a hard time figuring out who was talking, but I’m glad I stuck with the series b/c Crown of Midnight blew my mind, and I love her narration. I don’t know if it was because I was used to it, or because she got better, but I loved the book and narration.
So if you enjoy Throne of Glass enough to continue you’ll love Crown of Midnight 🙂

  18. I really liked the audio of The Silkworm in 2014.

    • Thanks for the recommendation 🙂 I don’t think I’ve heard of it, I have to check it out 🙂 Good luck to you!

  19. Great list! I’m working on Darynda Jones and Kate Daniels, so I’m not to the most recent ones yet, but loving them so far! I loved crown of midnight, though I read it didn’t listen – I bet that’s a great series to listen to, since there’s many hard to pronounce names! Thanks for hosting this again 🙂

    • Those two are awesome series Berls 🙂 Sometimes I wish I never lisntened to them so I can experience them for the first time…LOL Does that make sense?..LOL
I wasn’t 100% sold with Throne of Glass (story and mostly the narrator’s performance) but Crown of Midnight blew me away.
You’re welcome! it’s been a lot of fun to see everyone’s favorites. I added a bunch to my list, especially those that I wouldn’t normally go for myself.

  20. I’ve kind of avoided listening to anything to steamy because I think hearing it out loud would be a bit embarrassing. 🙂 I’ve just bought Outlander so I guess I’ll be getting over it! Red Rising and Throne of Glass are on my TBR list. I own them both!

    • Outlander is really not that steamy (for my but the violence in some instances is very strong…It’s sooo worth the listen tho.
I have a friend that can read any erotic book, but can’t do them on audio, so you’re not alone. I like my share of erotic books, but I like a very compelling story to go with it, the kind that scare me…LOL
I hope you enjoy those! It takes a little to get used to those two narrators, it wasn’t love at first listen, but I loved their performance on the following books. I hope you stick with Throne of Glass even if it’s just meh for you, the story gets so much better 🙂

  21. I’ve only listened to the first Charlie Davis novel (by Darynda Jones). But I actually met the author at a con last year and she was so much fun to listen to on the panels. I should really get back to the series.

    • I meet her too, last year at RT. She’s seemed very nice 🙂 Her books are awesome! I rated the first book 4 stars, but they all have been a 5 stars listen for me since then. They are funny, witty, mysterious, suspenseful and sexy..A combination I can’t resist 🙂

  22. This post makes me want to jump back in to the Outlander series. I left off somewhere in America. I don’t like Claire and Jamie’s daughter. Is that blasphemous? LOL! I love Davina Porter, though. I need to get over what’s stopping me.

Thanks for the great suggestions and for hosting the blog hop. I love it!

    • I totally understand. When her parts came on I used think to myself, hurry up! Let’s get back to Claire and Jamie….LOL
But a few things happened later that made me see her in a more sympathetic light.
This is another case where I just love the characters to pieces and love having Davina Porter take me to spend time with them every for years.
Thank you so much for participating Jennifer, I’m having a lot of fun myself 🙂

  23. Very tempting list! I still haven’t started the Outlander series. Maybe audio is the way to go!

    • I tried reading the first Diana, but I couldn’t get past the fifth chapter. The book starts slow and all kept doing was seeing how long it was…LOL
Davina Porter (narrator) did the trick for me. I pressed play and never came out that world until I was done with all the published books. Since An Echo in The Bone I had to wait 4 years for the next book.
I hope you love them too 🙂

  24. Yey, thank you again so much for hosting this and the great giveaway! I’m so glad to hear the Kate Daniels books are good audios, if I get behind or can’t fit in the sequel I’ll have to grab the audio :D. I listened to Gunmetal Magic and that was a lot of fun!

    • You’re welcome Anya! We had so much fun last year we knew we had to do it again.
I loved Gunmetal Magic. Ilona and Renee always make my list 🙂

  25. I’ve listened to 2 audiobooks so far this year. Aren’t you proud of me? I’m want to at least listen to 5-7 this year.

    • Yes! I’m very proud of you 🙂 and it’s only the first month of the year 🙂 I bet you’re going to end up listening to more than that! The over under is 15…lol

  26. I haven’t had the chance to listen to any audiobooks yet but I would love to listen to Written in my Own Heart’s Blood! Thank you so much for a chance to win and for being a part of this fun and awesome blog hop!!

    • You’re welcome and good luck! If you decide to listen I hope you love it as much as I did. I always enjoy immensely being back with Jamie and Claire 🙂

  27. I’ve listened to two of these, and am working on Cole’s series at the moment, so I’m going to give myself a point for that one too. 3/5, not bad! I’m surprised that Red Rising didn’t make the cut considering all of the gushing you do about it. Can’t believe you only gave Murder of Crows and honorable mention! Thanks for the chance, I need all of the Audible credits I can get cuz our exchange rate SUCKS right now.

    • Red Rising and Murder of Crows are on my top ten, but they didn’t make my top five b/c the narration didn’t blow me away even though I loved the stories. They weren’t bad at all, I rated their performance 4. And I have no idea why I liked Alexandra Harris more on Written in read than I did Murder of Crows.
I either got used to Tim G. Reynolds (Red Rising) or he got better, but I loved him in Golden Son and in other books I listened from him since.

      Good luck Carmel 🙂

  28. These all sound like awesome listens! I read Murder of Crows, but now wished I had listened instead. I already won BURNED on here so I’m feeling extra lucky and decided why not enter this giveaway too? LOL

    • Murder of Crows didn’t work for you? You right, maybe the audio would have worked better, but sometimes the stories just don’t work fo us, the life of reader 😉
Good luck to Lauri, maybe you’re in roll!

  29. Oh, those are great choices for books. I’m glad to see Davina Porter as a fav narrator- love her too. I really want to try a book narrated by Lorelei King b/c she seems to make everyone’s favorites list.

Thanks for participating in the hop and for the giveaway opportunity.

    • Lorelei King is fantastic with everything. I love as Mercy, Charley, and Stephanie Plum, although it’s been a while since I picked up a book from the latter.
The Charley Davidson series always makes my top ten. I still managed to mention it, and I also picked it for my favorite narrations. 🙂
You’re welcome and good luck to you!

  30. Thanks so much for the chance! I have read some of your featured audio books, but haven’t listened to them yet! I love audio books! I just started listening last year, but it just adds another sense, if you will, to the experience!

    • Yes, they do! I love how a narrator can take an Ok story and make it into an incredible listen. Just like you said, they do bring another sense to the experience, on the other hand a bad narrator can ruin the best book ever.
I love them, and I’m so glad you’re enjoying them too! Junkies love company 🙂

  31. I haven’t read any of these but I did buy a couple of your honorable mentions.

    • Those are fabulous listens, I just had to pick five, but they sure are on my to ten 🙂
I hope you enjoy them just as much!
      Good luck Rhianna!

  32. Murder of Crows would be in my top 5 along with Magic Breaks and Night Broken by Patricia Briggs.

    • They all sure are on my top 5 UF books; they all great, great listens 🙂
      Good luck to you Anne!

  33. Tangled is one of my favorites too, thanks for putting this together!

    • Tangled is definitely on my top ten! 🙂 It was so hard to pick just five! I think we should do ten next year…LOL
      Thank you for participating Nereyda!

  34. Ooos thank ya ladies! I’m slowly making my way into audios and have a couple of these on my wishlist. Good to know they’re awesome listens 😀

    • You’re welcome Anna, if you ever get to them I hope you love them too 🙂

  35. I’m new to audiobook listening. Thanks for the rec.’s.

  36. Oh this gives me so many books I want to listen to, now! Thanks for sharing your favorites!!

  37. I have not read Kresley Cole in a minute but I did love that story, so I know the audio was good.

    That Scoundrel looks good though.

    • Kresley Coles books are awesome on audio Marcia, I highly recommend those if you enjoy Paranormal romance, with action, suspense and super sexy stories. The narrator is totally awesome!

      • I do love paranormal romance and I have not read this series in a while. Going to check out the audio sounds like a great way to catch up.

  38. Every one of these sounds so good, but I think Anne Bishops series sounds so intriguing! Thank you so much for the giveaway!

    • I love Anne Bishop. The Others series is a great sample of her talent.
      Good luck to you 🙂

  39. Thanks for the great best of list and for the fab contest!!!

  40. OMG you have some great choices up there….Ilona Andrews all time fave!
Going to start the Vlad series now**

    • I love Ilona Andrews and the narrator. I love the narrator for the Vlad series, unfortunately Vlad voice didn’t work for me, so I haven’t continue 🙁 I’m in the minority tho. everyone else loves the audio 🙂

  41. The entire time I was reading Red Rising I knew it would be better as an audiobook. When the third book in the series is released I’m going to listen to all three back-to-back.

    • It took me a while to get use to him. First, he doesn’t sound like a 16 year- old. and I didn’t expect and accent in the story. But I listened to other books narrated by him, I went back and I really enjoyed then.
I loved everything from the get go about the Golden Son 🙂

    • it’s going good on my end 🙂 I had a lot of fun collecting audiobooks to add to my list from everyone’s best.
I hope you had fun 🙂

  42. Nice picks! I haven’t listened to any audiobooks so far, so I entered the giveaway, who knows maybe I win. I haven’t read any of the books you listed here, although I did start Throne of Glass but DNF’d it as it wasn’t for me. I hope 2015 is great audiobook year for you 🙂

    • Throne of Glass was a little tough for me too, I wasn’t really happy with the narrator’s interpretation, but Crown of Midnight blew my mind 🙂 But it doesn’t have to be for everyone, sometimes no matter how many people like a book they just not for us 🙁
I hope one day you listen that ONE book that turns you into an audio junkie 🙂

  43. Great blog, I always enjoy your reviews. I just downloaded Lord of Scoundrels, look forward to listening to it! Thanks for the giveaway.

    • Thank you so much! I hope you’re loving Lords of Scoundrels!!!…Let me know your thoughts one way or the other, I’d love to hear your opinion 🙂
      Good luck to you!!

  44. I loved Lord of Scoundrels! Several more of your favs are on my TBR list, I’ll have to check them out on audiobook.

    • Wasn’t it great?! The narrator is fantastic, so she made a good book into a great listening experience for me 🙂
I hope that if you ever get a chance to listen to the others you have you enjoy them as much as I did.
      Good luck Ann!

  45. I hope you love them too FanJessca 🙂 It was hard to pick just five. Those were fabulous listens for me, the only bad thing is that most of them are part of a series, and not easy to pick them up by themselves and have the same experience, but in any case, all those series are great! The exception is Lord’s Scoundrels which is #3 in its series, but I still loved it without listening to the previous 2.
    Good luck to you 🙂
