I listened to the first book in this series, Fated, a little over a month ago. While I enjoyed it, I felt that the series had much more potential that first book gave us. Claimed really brought that potential out and was much more what I would’ve expected from Rebecca Zanetti. There is much less world-building, so she was able to focus much more on the characters, which is my favorite part of any story. Claimed continued to build on many of the plot points that Fated originally built.

Here, we have Emma, the sister of the heroine of the first book, she has been taken by the evil Kurjans. Dage, the king of the Realm and the vampires knows that Emma is his fated mate and is going after her to get her back from the Kurjans. These two have dreamed about each other for many years, Dage for many more, since he is centuries old. Emma is also a psychic and sees the future in her dreams. She has seen her death and doesn’t want to tie herself to Dage for this exact reason.

Dage is a king and has been since he was very young and the Kurjans killed his parents. He isn’t used to other people not following his orders. Emma has no intentions of following his orders. She has been caring for Cara and then Janie for several years, she isn’t used to taking orders. You can see where this will go in this story.

“Oh love, you misunderstand. It wasn’t the king demanding your obedience.” His muscles bunched like a predator before springing. “It was the man.”

As per usual for me, it is the side character that really make a story for me. Not only do we continue to the story of the main characters of the first book, but we also have characters like the shifter Katie, the prophet Lily, the witch Moira, all the Kayrs brothers and best of all little Janie and her mysterious friend Zane.

While this is a paranormal romance series, it has the larger overall story arc that means you really need to read the series from the beginning to understand everything that is going on in the story. I tend to enjoy these types of PNR series more. I love that that larger story arc that keeps the reader interested outside of just the romance of the two main characters. This is one of those types of PNR series.

Claimed Audiobook Narration

Once again, Karen White knocks this out of the park. I’ve come to always expect an exceptional narration when I see that she is the narrator. She brings great emotion and character voice to the books. Her pace and tone are always where I like to see them. For this book, I would like to call out the accent she uses for the Irish witch Moira. I really enjoyed that Irish/Gaelic accent. She also does a really good job with four-year-old Janie. I really feel her youth when she speaks.

I’m Melanie and I live in Ohio. I have two horses and a dog. I’m an animal lover, avid book reader and audiobook listener. I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. My favorite paranormal creatures are shifters, doesn’t matter the flavor.

  1. Great review Melanie thanks

  2. I’ll have to check out this series on audio. Yall got me addicted to that format 😛 Great review 🙂

    • Glad to create a new audio junkie. 🙂 Karen White is a great narrator. I just love her.

  3. I have a couple of books from this author but yet to read them. 🙂

    • I’ve really enjoyed this author. The Sin Brothers series is my favorite so far. There are four books about genetically enhanced brothers raised in a military like compound running to get their lives from that compound.

  4. I still have yet to read a Zanetti. I know! I don’t know what’s wrong with me. BUT. I will get on that. SOON. Great review, Melanie 😉

    • I can’t recommend the Sin Brothers series enough. I like this series, but I LOVED that series. I’m sure this one will get to that point as I get deeper into the series, too.

  5. I’m in the same boat with Jessica (sigh), I still have to read Zanetti, too. I keep meaning to because I see her everywhere! On it now!!! 😉

    • I’ve really enjoyed this author. This is the second series I’ve read by her. I’ve enjoyed both.

  6. I love Rebecca Zanetti, and I already own Fated – it’s good to know Claimed was even better, Melanie! Maybe I’ll get this 2nd book in audio-format.
    Great review.
Have a fantastic Friday and happy listening.

    • I love Karen White’s narration, so that would be my recommendation. I hope you enjoy.

  7. Always good when the second book is stronger. This does sounds good and this author is of course on my list to try.

    • Her Sin Brothers series was one of my favorites. This series just keeps getting better, so I expect it to be moving up the ranks quickly.

  8. That’s awesome to hear. I love her books but haven’t started on these yet. Nice to see that they’re getting better with each one 🙂

    • I agree. I love a series that builds as the series goes along.

  9. I enjoy it when a second book in a series really brings out the potential. I feel like a lot of first books in a series show a lot of potential, but that not always comes out fully.

I love world building, but it can also bog down the story a bit. I like that about second books, the world is alreayd established and the author needs less world buildig, but can still add things.

Side characters can really make a story for me as well, so I enjoy books with well written side characters. I am glad to hear this book has that. Great review!

    • Yeah, this is why even if I don’t love first books in a series, I usually give book two a try. I liked book one in this series, but didn’t love it. It was one that you could really see the potential in the series, especially if there are great characters.
