This is the first book in a new series by Eve Langlais. It is sort of a spin off of the Kodiak Point series. However, unlike some other spinoffs that I’ve read, you can read this one without having read Kodiak Point (though I highly recommend Kodiak Point, one of my favorite series by Eve). Basically, Bitten Point is a shifter friendly town, just like Kodiak Point. Our hero, Caleb, is just coming back from the same army installment that the Kodiak Point guys were in.

Anyway, Caleb is a croc shifter and is just coming back into town after being away at the war. He had left town totally unexpectedly. No one knew why he left and joined the army. It really upset his mother, brother and also his girlfriend. HIs pregnant girlfriend.  Now it is five years later and his son is four years old and has no idea who his father is.

Renny hasn’t had it easy since Caleb left her with a child. She is working two jobs to afford to pay all the bills. Four-year-old Luke doesn’t understand why mom is never around. He gets angry with her. He also has a bit of animalistic side to him that he got from his father.

There is also some suspense going on in this story. People are going missing. The children are reporting seeing a dinosaur. The shifters are smelling things they’ve never smelled before. We learn more about why Caleb up and left out of nowhere to join the army. It was exactly what I expected from a Eve Langlais story. It was fun, sexy and had some suspense to it as well. I love how Eve isn’t afraid to use animal shifters that aren’t the norm. Caleb’s brother is a snake shifter (one takes after mom and the other takes after dad). I hope he gets a book in this series.

Croc’s Return Narration

Chandra Skyye is a narrator that I’ve listened to before with the Kodiak Point series. At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of her narration, but she has grown on me. While she will never be on my list as a top narration, I’ve come to be able to enjoy her narrations enough. In this story, we see her ability to add children into the mix, which I thought she did a pretty decent job. I do listen to her at an increased speed.

Author Eve LanglaisHello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane…with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

I’m Melanie and I live in Ohio. I have two horses and a dog. I’m an animal lover, avid book reader and audiobook listener. I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. My favorite paranormal creatures are shifters, doesn’t matter the flavor.

  1. hmmm, new to me author and I’m trying to broaden my horizons this year. So this goes on my wish list

  2. I put this in my car today so I should be getting to it by the end of this week. Chandra is always hit/miss with me so I am glad I also have the book 🙂

  3. I like the sound of the croc shapeshifter. That is certainly something I havent’ read before. I would read it for that alone.

  4. I feel like I need to read ALL of her books *hangs head* She writes such unique stories, they’re calling my name. Great review 🙂

  5. This just looks like a lot of fun. Croc shifter? I need some kind of different shifter than the usual cat/wolf kind. LOL I’m glad you enjoyed this one.

  6. I’m happy this was another winner from Langlais, Melanie. I started to request this one but I’m glad I didn’t since I’d like to read the Kodiak Point series first. 🙂 You have me really curious about Caleb though, and how his family and Renny in particular handle his return. 😀

    • If you want to read Kodiak Point, then I would read it first. I think there are references here you will enjoy more with that information. You can start with this one, but if you plan to do both, then do the other first. I love Kodiak Point. I hope you enjoy it too.

  7. Um…a croc shifter? That’s an interesting shifter choice–not smexy at all, IMO, but the story sounds good!

  8. I have this audio for review, too, Melanie, so I only read the first paragraph of your review! I actually thought this was a spinoff of the FUC series, not the Kodiak Point series, good to know that it’s not necessary to have read all the Kodiak Point books before Croc’s Return, because I’ve only read two of those.
I look forward to listening now, glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Have a wonderful week and happy reading.

    • I could see how you would think this is FUC, because of Viktor, but but this is Kodiak Point. Mostly, they both served under the same army leader. There is mention of the villain, but that is it. I hope you enjoy. Hope you have a great week too. 🙂

  9. It’s nice to have a new good story like that, I didn’t know about it but I don’t know why I’m not attracted to her books. After all your reviews I know I need to try to make my mind up. You’ll have to tell me which one to try

    • Kinda depends on what you’re in the mood for. If you want a more standard PNR with shifters, Kodiak Point or maybe this series. If you want something a little more on the silly side, her FUC series is hilarous, but still has some suspense. If you like Demons and Lucifer, Welcome to Hell and the Princess of Hell are great. I haven’t tried her aliens yet, though I’ve heard they are good. I’ve read the first two in the cyborg series. I plan to finish that series up this year.

  10. I think I have the first Kodiak Point books, but haven’t read it yet. You make me really curious about this author her books. And a crocodile shifter? That sounds so fun and original. I like the fact that this author dares to use shifters that aren’t the norm. And I like a bit of suspense in books. I really have to give one of her books a try soon. Great review!

    • I love the Kodiak Point series too. I think this series will be similar. I love how Eve isn’t scared to go outside of the box with her shifters. She has a moose, caribou, croc, swan and more. The moose is still my favorite. He is the hero of the second Kodiak Point book and is a secondary character in every Kodiak Point book.

  11. Croc shifter? I love Eve but there have been a few of her books I love and a few I could have left unread. This one sounds very interesting.

    • I have enjoyed all of her stuff so far, some more than others. I do think some are a little silly. This is one of her more serious and suspenseful books. Don’t know if you tried Kodiak Point, this is a spin off from that series. You can read this with or without having read that series.

  12. I just finished listening to this one yesterday! I really enjoyed it. I didn’t know it was going to be a spin off until Caleb start talking about things and I was like hey, that is Kodiak Point….lol. (I still need to listen to grizzly love but not a fan of younger guys and older women…lol…probably cause I like older men…hehe)
