4 Hearts

I’ve always like Silvio, ever since I first met him in Black Widow. He is a character that I could always relate to. He is a bit of a tech geek and very organized. He is also a information hound. I think I fell in love with him as a character when Silvio and Finn used to race to find information that Gin needed quicker and more of it. I kinda liked the idea that Finn was getting a run for his money. I was very excited to her that Silvio was getting his own book (even more so than Finn).

So this story is set during the Christmas season. Silvio has a date. I wouldn’t call it a big date, but it was supposed to just be coffee. So, Silvio has this date with a guy he met at the Pork Pit. They’ve had some nice conversations while there, but now it’s time to take things a step further and go out with just the two of them. As with Gin and her gang, things didn’t go quite that easily.

This is a short story, so I won’t go into details of where it goes from there. Just know that this is exactly what you expect from an Elemental Assassins story. There is a good fight scene. There is a good scene where Silvio has to use his mind to get himself out of the situation that he got himself into. Silvio proves that he is more than just an assistant. This wouldn’t be a Jennifer Estep story if there wasn’t great food included, so check there too. LOL

I will add what appears to be the moral of this story (and I wouldn’t consider this a spoiler), always backup your devices on a regular bases. If you’re a fan of this series, you know how much Silvio loves his tablet. His is never without them. I’m the same way with my phone. I back it up all the time, because I don’t want to loose anything. Computers are important as well. So remember, always backup your devices. LOL

Nice Guys Bite Audiobook Narration

4 Hearts

This story was a little weird to listen to at first. I’m so used to Lauren Fortgang as the narrator for this series, it was weird to hear everyone with someone else. I completely understand that they wanted a male narrator to voice Silvio. He is a guy after all. This was the first time I’ve listened to David Marantz. I will say that he did a good job with the narration. I thought he did a good job with the women and the men. He even did a good job with Sophia, who has a difficult voice.

After being born on the east coast, my family moved to California while I was still quite young. I eventually attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where I wound up in the Theatre, having actually started as a Political Science major. After earning my BA in Dramatic Art, I moved back to LA where I studied acting with Darryl Hickman in North Hollywood for three years before being accepted into the Mason Gross School of the Arts Professional Actor Training Program at Rutgers in NJ, where I studied Meisner technique with William Esper and Maggie Flanigan. With MFA in hand, I began my career in New York City, where I am today.

Other interesting facts: I’m a vegetarian and yoga enthusiast. I play guitar, ride motorcycles and have taken up surfing again after too many years of thinking it was too impractical to surf while living in New Jersey and New York. It is impractical, but worth it.

  1. Great review Melanie I really need to get back into this series I really miss these characters and I have never met Silvio. Ughh

    • It is a fun series. Silvio is a really fun character. He’s her assistant. He does a great job.

  2. I think I’ve only read one book of hers. I really need to pick up a few more because her books always sound so good.

    • I’ve really enjoyed all of her books. I still need to try her Mythos Academy and Karma Girl series.

  3. I seriously need to catch up in this series. I think it’s time that I jump back into this series…my hiatus is over. I feel like if I don’t continue with the series now I’ll be as behind in this series as I am in the Laurell K. Hamilton series :O

    • It is so easy to fall behind once you get a single book behind. I’ve had that happen to me a few times.

    • Did you get Finn’s novella? It wasn’t available on audio, but I read it. It was fun too. I will admit that I liked this one more (but don’t tell Finn, LOL).

      • I managed to read his, somehow this one just snuck right past me though haha Thanks for the heads up 😀

  4. I usually skip the novellas but now I understand why a lot of y’all read this in particular. I love Silvio too! And it won’t be EA without some action, date or no date lol

    • Some series I will skip novellas and others I won’t. A lot depends on if they are on audio, though I do read some too. 🙂

  5. I need to get book two, I am so behind in this series since I just started it last year…lol. 🙂 Great review!

    • It is such a fun series. So much happens with Gin. I’m really impressed with Estep’s ability to come up with new villains.

  6. This is another series I haven’t started yet. I like that she is writing stories for the minor characters.

I had a series where it switched narrators for one book and it really through me off, too.

    • I’m not a fan of switching narrators. I understand why they did with this book, since the POV is male than female. Personally, though, I think Lauren Fortgang could’ve nailed this though.

  7. I can’t wait to read this one! I’m so behind on this series though, I think I’m only at book seven or something.

    • It is so easy to get behind on series. I’ve gotten behind on several. I spent the first half of last year trying to just catch up. I tried to not start any new series. That really helped.

  8. Maybe this will be the year I get to this series. I have been saying that for the last couple of years. When I do, I want to do it on audio. I will go back up my devices right now. Ha ha.

    • I do love this series on audio. The main narrator is a favorite of mine.

  9. This is the only book (novella) in the series I haven’t read! Somehow I didn’t get a review copy. So need to get it and maybe I’ll try it on audio.

    • So you weren’t able to get it for review. It’s a fun book. I think you’ll enjoy it. The audio is pretty good.

  10. Oh that would throw ya having a new narrator coming in like that even if it made sense. I’ll have to check him out. I haven’t listened to too many male narrators yet.

    • I listen to more female than male, but there’s some really great male narrators. Robert Petkoff is my favorite. Luke Daniels is great too.

  11. I’m so so so late, I did read book 1 and have book 2 and 3 to read but haven’t done that yet….

  12. HAHA! Omg. I love that you come up with a moral of the story for this. That is awesome! Great review!

    • If you’ve ever lost anything on a device, you will understand what I’m talking about. I’ve worked with so many people who would come to me and ask if I could recover data after a device died or something. I would then remind them to back everything up. It seemed fitting for this story. LOL

  13. Aw shiznits! I need to get my butt in gear and continue on with this series!

    • It is such a fun series. I hope that you’re able to get back to it soon. 🙂
