Alice Clayton Nailed it! She totally did a bang up job with this book. Rusty Nailed Audiobook is just as enjoyable as the last installment, Wallbanger. It was fun, witty, and I didn’t think possible, but I fell deeper in love with Simon.

Caroline and Simon had moved on to a more serious phase in their relationship and here you will see how they adjust to them. They have come to a time in their lives when everyone around them are either getting married or having kids. The pressure is definitely on.

Simon, my ever so sweet Wallbanger was just perfect. I don’t think he can do anything wrong. Everything he did was just amazing, and I think he is just the perfect boyfriend. Caroline is one lucky witch to have scored this Wallbanger for her own. There is no doubt she deserves him as much as he deserves her. She was after all good to him…most of the time. But there were times when Caroline annoyed me beyond belief with her damn “pickles.” It felt like she was a bomb waiting to explode. And I think this is where the conflict fell just a little short for me.

Caroline is an over-achiever, and I think she is a commitment-phobe or so appeared to be in this book. Because of that, it dampened on their relationship. The build up of all her “pickles” made it seem like there would be a big blowout but in the end it was easily fixed by just sitting down and discussing things like adults. Not that I didn’t like her, because I did, and her issues were all valid it’s just that she didn’t handle them very well. Damn those “pickles.” In the end, she did make the right decision and won back my heart.

You’ll also see more of their friend’s lives as they go on with theirs. It was cute to see them with their issues too. They made me laugh. Though some are out of these world scenes, I know friends who went through similar drama. It’s definitely more entertaining in books.

I think part of my love for this book is that it’s done in the city where I grew up. The mention of the Claremont hotel where my mom used to work was kind of cool. I love the descriptions of the city and the bay. Reading this story felt like home.

Rusty Nailed Audibook Narration

Heather Smith’s narration is so much better this time. She captured Caroline’s personality to a tee. And I applaud her from holding back on the overly done of sounds she made from the last book Wallbanger. Of course, there was less of it this time around but it worked in her favor. Her pace is still on the slower end but easily overlooked. This narrator is definitely growing on me.

Author Alice Clayton

Author Alice Clayton

Novelist Alice Clayton makes her home in St. Louis where she enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up after, and is trying desperately to get her long-time boyfriend to make her an honest woman–and please buy her a Bernese Mountain dog.

No image to be found of Heather Smith, maybe the Cocktail series was her first narrating job, or she could be using a Pseudonymous, although she doesn’t sound like anyone I have listened to before…. I’ll keep looking  🙂

  1. I hesitated to read it so far, though I love Wallbanger, because of such drama as the “pickles”… So I’m still hesitating, but I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

    • Red, I still recommend for you to listen to it. Maybe knowing about the pickles when you go in to the book, it won’t annoy you as much? =) It was still a fun listen. =)

  2. I also enjoyed this one Angela, not nearly as much as Wallbanger but enjoyable nonetheless.
In my case, there’s nothing in Heather’s narration that a little extra speed can’t fix 😉 I always find that narrators can do so much better with the following books to the first, but I often wonder if is just us getting used to their narration.
Love having you at Hot Listens 🙂

    • Loupe, yes. I love the speed button. I’m really liking Smith as a narrator.
<3 And I love coming here.

  3. Hey Angela great review and guess what she’s a local author so that’s a must read for me. Thanks for putting her on my radar!!

    • Debbie, yes! it’s a must read especially for you. =) Beside the “pickles” I really enjoyed the book. I love Clayton’s voice.

  4. Looks like I need to read Wallbanger 😀

    • Gah! Lily, you have not read it? OMG. you have too! It’s such a fun read/listen. Let us know if you like it.

      • Will do!! I’ve seen really good reviews for it, so it’s been on my TBR lol

  5. I heard that the noises in Wallbanger were a bit disturbing. They would probably make me uncomfortable. I am so happy she didn’t go the ‘big misunderstanding’ route in this book. Caroline annoyed me at times but Simon made up for it. I’m actually gonna start the Screwdrivered audio today 🙂

    • Nereyda, yes! Thise noises we’re bad. I may recommend print in thise parts. LOL. No “meow” moises this time and both books the little annoyances were overlooked causenif Simon. I just love the guy!

  6. I wasn’t a big fan of Wallbanger, but I did enjoy the audio. But the narrator was a bit much with her voices. Especially when she would do the sex scenes. Loved Simon, Caroline got on my nerves with her big “O”. O didn’t know she had a sequel…hmmmm, maybe…

    • Sharonda, I agree with you on the sex scenes from Wallbanger. It was crazy. The narrator did a better job this time around. =)

      • I’m going to add it to my wishlist. Thanks for the rec Angela 😀

  7. I didn’t know this book was out… Yes, I live in La La Land… I won’t listen to this book, but I’ll read it.
    Great review.

    • Happens to me too. Totally puts me back on my listens….even more so than I usually am. It’s a great read as well as an audiobook. Hope you like it.

  8. A book that features your hometown as a setting is difficult to resist, especially when the author references certain places / things that you have an personal attachment to. Plus, from your review I gather that Heather Smith hit her stride in this installment which is a definite bonus as far as the audiobook is concerned.

    • I’m glad you agree on the setting…I’m a sucker for them. Did you listen to this audio already? or are you reading it?

  9. I have the ebook, I adored Wallbanger and laughed my ass off. I cannot wait to read it. Glad you loved the audio. I am anal and need to finish this series on ebook but every chance I get I start new series on audio

    • I’m totally anal too when it comes to series. I think it’s my downfall and the very reason for my never-ending TBR list. If you liked Wallbanger, you’ll enjoy this too.=)

  10. I really like this series on audio. I have the 3rd to review but having issues downloading it from S&S website. UGH. But I can’t wait to listen to book 3 once I can download it.

    • ugh, that happened to me too. I ended up going to Audible. Ah, well. I just loaded book3 too.

  11. I love these covers and the titles make me giggle 🙂 I’ve heard great things about Wallbanger and the series so I’ll have to add this to my contemporary romance list, I’m actually tempted to listen to it on audio after reading your review Angela!

    • Thanks Lori, read or listen you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great book.

  12. I think I’d better add Wallbanger to my TBR list… I’ve been hearing a lot about it, but I still wasn’t sure if give it a go or not. Your review for the sequel definitely got me curious, Angela! I may not listen to audiobooks, but I’ll be sure to read the series 😉
