I’m Melanie and I live in Ohio. I have two horses and a dog. I’m an animal lover, avid book reader and audiobook listener. I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. My favorite paranormal creatures are shifters, doesn’t matter the flavor.

  1. There are some awesome books on your list. A lot of them are on mine too, but the ones that aren’t look really good. I might have to check them out! I hope you are having a great holiday! Merry Christmas

    • Thanks Tanya. I think 2016 will be a great year for books. I didn’t allow myself honorable mentions because the list would be too long. I hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas too.

  2. There are so many awesome titles coming out next year! I really need to start reading the Anne Bishop series. I think I have the first book stashed somewhere in my TBR pile.

I’m also super excited for the next Kate Daniels book! Love that series.

    • I love The Others by Anne Bishop. It is completely unlike anything else I’m reading. I’m always very excited for anything by Ilona Andrews. I just love their writing style. So much fun.

  3. Oooh great list! 2016 looks like it’s going to be an awesome reading year! Thanks so much for taking part in the Top 10 of 2015! I hope to see you next year for the Top 10 of 2016!

    • I had so much fun, I will probably join in 2016 too. I think it will be a great year. There are so many great books coming out. Thanks for putting this on.

  4. Briggs & Bishop for sure and I shoulld start JBlack

    • Jenna Black’s Nikki Glass or Gifted series are both great. There are only two books in the Gifted series right now and book two made my list of Top 10 Best Books I read for 2015.

    • I think it will be a great year. I plan to get caught up on some series that I’m behind on, plus all these new books. I also hope to maybe try a few new-to-me authors.

  5. Bishop, Briggs and Andrews are musts! After listening to Brighter Than the Sun I think I’m back in the mood for Jones again. I’ll have to listen to 8th Grave from the library soon.

    • There were many people who were not happy with the ending of 8th Grave. I’m confident that the issues will be resolved in 9th Grave.

  6. That’s a nice selection of books on your list. I’d love to give the Anne Bishop books a try. I listened to the first, but I’d like to read it as well, just to catch up on the stuff I missed.

    • That is one of my favorite series. I’ve relistened to the series before each new book comes out. Not sure if I will have that ability before this one comes out.

  7. Great list! The books I am most excited for in 2016 are mostly sequels to books I’ve read, but also a few first in the series that I am really curious about, often by an author I already know and read one of their books and enjoyed it, as that makes me more excited for their other books usually.

I haven’t read Menagerie yet, but it’s good to know the sequel will be released next year. And I wnat to read the book in The Other series soon, I didn’t realize they are at book 4 already. I hope you’ll enjoy all of these!

    • All of mine are part of a series too. I loved Menagerie. It was on my Top 10 Books of 2015. I highly recommended.

  8. Great list! You have so many authors that I plan to start reading in 2016. I started an audiobook for the first Darynda Jones book but I had to return it to the library before finishing it. I liked it but now need to re-read it. I hope you enjoy all of these books =)

    • I love the Charley Davidson series on audio. Lorelei King is one of my favorite narrators. I hope you get a chance to try it again.

  9. The Charley Davidson series is one I’m looking forward to trying soon. I’m definitely loving the Kate Daniels series! All of these look like great series. Thanks for sharing!

    • Charley Davidson is a series with a ton of humor. It is a different kind of humor than Kate Daniels, but still a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy.

  10. Woohoo!! I just realized that I’m not that far behind on the Alex Craft series!! I only didn’t read book 3! And I started Charley Davidson and so far so good 🙂 I’m behind one book in Mercy’s series and I still have to start The Others and Kate Daniels (sigh).

    Awesomely fantastic list girl!!!

    • I’m probably going to have to relisten to Alex Craft three before listening to book four it has been so long since a book came out. I hope you get a chance to try Kate Daniels and The Others. They are both fun series.

  11. Ninth Grave, Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier, and Karen Chance’s Ride the Storm (even though I wasn’t crazy about the last book) are at the top of my list. I still need to read book 3 in the Nikki Glass series.

    • I wasn’t crazy about the last Cassandra Palmer book either, but I’m not able to walk away. I want to know what happens next. I’m probably going to have to revisit Nikki Glass three to remember what happened so I’m not lost when book four comes out. I’m not familiar with Den of Wolves, but I’ll look it up.

  12. All of those look so good. I must have Darynda Jones’s book and I still need to start the Anne Bishop series. *sigh*

Hope you had a great Christmas!

    • Always so many books, so little time. I keep finding new series to try, but don’t have the time to try more. Going through everyone’s top 10 lists I kept finding more and more.

  13. Fab choices Melanie, I would definitely include Grave Visions, Fire Touched, Shadowed Blade, Masquerade and Magic Binds in my list too. I love all of those series 🙂 I need to catch up with the Charley Davidson books (I’ve only read the first couple) and I MUST start Anne Bishop’s Others series – I’ve heard so many people raving about those books!

    • The Anne Bishop books can be a little dark, but if you liked Menagerie, you won’t have issue with The Others. Plus the Crows are so funny.

  14. Marked in Flesh is on my list, too! Rarely is my first read in audio (I tend to buy books I’ve read and loved and listen to them again and again,) but this series was all audio for me. I wasn’t sure about the narrator at first, but she really grew on me. I can’t wait for this one!

    • When I first started listening to books, I only did relistens. I think I was listening for at least a year before I attempted my first listen first book. Now, I listen to most of my books. I also feel the same way about The Others narrator. At first, I thought she was too soft, but I really felt that she fit Meg to a tee. I do always laugh when I read The Book Nympho’s reviews, because she thinks the narrator makes Simon sound like Scooby Doo.

      • Oh, that is funny! I never thought that, but I do remember thinking the narrator makes him very gruff, and I think my perception would have been different if I’d read instead of listened. But I like him gruff!
