Promises to Keep Audiobook
Following up on the decadent love affair with France for middle-aged Katherine Price and her own newly found chance at loves comes Promises to Keep telling the what comes after the Happily Ever After.
Promises to Keep is the second book in the Love in Provence series and continues the story begun in book one, The Promise of Provence. It also continues my deepening love for this story and the narrator. I found the first book thoughtful, engaging, and a decadence for the senses, but this book solidified all I enjoyed and added just that extra bit of sparkle that I can’t even explain.
There is a suspense element, but this is not a suspenseful story. No, it is the ongoing gentle love affair Katherine feels for Phillipe and for this corner of France. I enjoyed getting more of Phillipe’s past and his present as well as his stronger presence in the story scenes. Katherine is still the main narrator, but Phillipe’s occasional thoughts are there.
There were new friends to meet and deepen friendship from a lady artist living high in a medieval mountain town, to family in Leon, and another older and mysterious lady artist living in seclusion near the village. Trips to Marseilles, truffle hunting in the season, back to Provence farm country for visits to old friends, and other interesting places encourage Kat to follow her passion for photography and join Phillipe in his for cheese.
What remained the same was the joy of exploring places, people, art, music, and yes… the cuisine of the region. As this book’s events were largely over the holiday season there are beautiful home for the holidays, village preparation and celebration, and personal holiday scenes that were heartwarming and beautiful. Have I mentioned just how lush and colorful this author’s writing is?
I think the suspense element tightened up the story for me, but also the fact that introductions are over as well as some of the earlier, painful growth moments for Kat after her husband left her. She’s more than reconciled to her new life with just a few hesitations and she is ready to embrace new adventures. The tone of the book is overall joie de vivre.
All in all, this series just keeps getting better and I look forward to the final leg of the trilogy after a startling situation arises at the end of this book. Those who enjoy women’s fiction, travel fiction, mild contemporary romance, foodie stories, friendship stories, or any and all the above are definitely the target group for my recommendation.
Promises to keep Audiobook Narration
Janet Metzger continues to wrap her gentle yet husky voice around the story with a lovely command of accents, emotions, pace, and description. She is such a fantastic match for this story and a very talented narrator.
Patricia Sands lives in Toronto, Canada, when she isn’t somewhere else. An admitted travel fanatic, she can pack a bag in a flash and be ready to go anywhere … particularly the south of France, for her annual visit.
As of January, 2015, along with being a proud indie author, Patricia is also delighted to be under contract with Lake Union Publishing for her Love In Provence series. This is the women’s fiction arm of Amazon Publishing.
With a focus on travel, women’s issues and ageing, her stories celebrate the feminine spirit and the power of friendship. Encouraging women of all ages to stare down the fear factor and embrace change, Patricia has heard from readers (men too!) ages 20 to 83. Her award-winning debut novel The Bridge Club was published in 2010 and the audiobook, read by Patricia, will be available soon.
Her second novel, The Promise of Provence received a 2014 National Indie Excellence Finalist Award in Literary Fiction. An Amazon Hot New Release in April 2013, The Promise of Provence was also a USA Best Book 2013 Finalist ~ Women’s Fiction. On Patricia’s stay in France in September 2013, Heidi’s English Bookshop in Antibes hosted a book signing attended by readers from six countries. Although Heidi’s has closed, the Antibes Book Shop on Rue Georges Clemenceau continues the tradition and Patricia’s novels can be found there.
The Promise of Provence, Promises To Keep and I Promise You This, set in the south of France, are now the first three books of the Love In Provence series. Lake Union Publishing will be releasing Drawing Lessons October 1, 2017 and is available for Pre-Order on Amazon.
Patricia has led three 10-day tours of the French Riviera and the countryside of Provence. These trips were based on The Promise of Provence, with the Women’s Travel Network. Let her know if you would like to go with her and a small group of women. It’s the perfect trip for women traveling on their own or with good friends.
When I was five years old, my father brought home a tape recorder from his public speaking class and allowed me to record myself doing whatever I liked. I sang, I made up stories, I read. Years later Dad would tell me I always ended my sessions singing “… and that’s how I make my living.” Now, with over 30 years experience as a professional actor, I do what I’ve always dreamed… .. giving life to a writer’s words. I have recorded for Audible, Brilliance Audio and Hachette. What follows explains why I am a versatile and skilled audiobook narrator.
An experienced live performer, I am tuned to the needs of audiences. Singing and acting on stage since the age of 14, I have a keen sense of what is needed to hold someone’s attention. Subtext!!
I am adept at delivering authentic accents and realistically speaking in foreign languages. I earned a music degree in voice at Florida State where I was classically trained in French and Italian art songs and German lieder. I continued my exploration of foreign language songs, singing in Russian and Eastern European languages as well as Portuguese and Spanish. I have the ability to match accents as well as my own recordings, even done years earlier.
I can make dense language understandable and entertaining. I studied acting at The Alliance Theatre. I racked up classical credits in Shakespeare, Ibsen, Moliere and Goethe. Contemporary credits include many works of Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Becket and Peter Shaffer.
