Grave Visions Audiobook
4 Hearts
It has been a long while since I have visited the world of Alex Craft and her friends. I was quite surprised with how quickly I was able to pick the story back up. I had originally planned to relisten to the third book in the series before listening to this one, but I didn’t have a copy. I thought I had bought a copy, but I must have gotten it from the library. Anyway, I did okay without the relisten to the previous book.
It has only been a few weeks for Alex since the end of the last book (seems like so much longer, since it was for me.) Alex is quickly drawn into a new case. Humans are taking a new drug that are bringing nightmares to life and killing them. Then when she goes to raise the shades, there isn’t much left of them, which is really weird.
Alex is also called to the Winter court by the Winter Queen, which is never good. Falin is forced to bring her. She is put into a position to help the queen, but Alex uses her smarts to quickly solve another issue that she’s having. She needs her independent status or join a court. If she joins a court, she could be forced to move when the courts shift (fae courts move separately from the mortal world). She quickly makes a deal with the Queen to get her independent status for at least a while if she can help the Queen, which is easier said than done.
There is some drama in the romance part of this book. There were issues with Alex’s current lover, Death, in the previous book. Falin is trying really hard to court her. Oh, and she finds out that there is a new player that she didn’t even know about. Personally, I’m still on team Falin. I think he is the best bet for her. However, as a member of the Winter Court, what will happen if the courts shift and he has to move and she doesn’t.
I will say I was very glad to be back in Necros. It was everything I remember that I loved about this series. Alex is a great character who is caring and is always trying to help her friends. She also has great friends. Even some of the cops who she works with who are not her friends are great characters. This is a fun urban fantasy series with great mysteries and crime drama. You do need to start with the first book in the series and work your way through the series without being lost.
Grave Visions Narration
4 Hearts
This is the only series that I’ve listened to with Emily Durante. That is not because I don’t like her, I just haven’t come across her for anything else. I think she does a great job with her narration of this series. I was a little worried that with the long break between books that there might be a different narrator for this book. I was so glad to see she was still narrating this series. She is Alex Craft to me. She does a great job with the different voices, both male and female. I like her pace and tones. I think she does a great job showing the sense of urgency when the scene calls for it. She is a narrator that I would recommend.
Narrator Emily Durante
Emily Durante has been acting since the age of seven, performing in a number of stage plays professionally, in the community, and at the college level. Other performance credits include commercial and industrial voice work, educational live theater, and singing telegrams. She has been narrating audiobooks for over ten years. Her titles include the Midnight Twins trilogy by Jacquelyn Mitchard, Casting Off by Nicole R. Dickson, Impossible and Locked Inside both by Nancy Werlin, and Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. She has also directed audiobooks, including the Earphones Award-winning performance of Heaven’s Keep narrated by Buck Schirner. Emily resides in the Philadelphia area with her husband and two children.
I like to thanks Tantor Media for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This is a new to me author, thanks for the great review. Sorry I’ve been awol last week but my whole family has been down with a Nasty bug. Ugh!
Thanks Debbie. We all need a break every now and then for different reasons. I hope your family is back with the land of the living. This is a fun series. It is the only series I’ve read from this author.
This is a series I have long had on my radar, but I haven’t gotten around to it. I hear there has been a lenghty delay between the last couple of books, which is frustrating. Still, I am happy to hear it is worthwhile and that you had no trouble slipping back into the world. One of these days, I will get to this series.
Yes, I believe that the author had a personal issue that kept pushing the deadline back. I don’t know that it is something that will happen again. Though I don’t know that for sure. I still enjoyed the book and was glad to be back in the world.
I’ve had book one of this series on my kindle (or was it bookshelf??) forever now, I need to get around to reading it. Maybe I should just get the audiobook since I seem to be cranking those out lately 😛
I have several of those series that have been sitting around for a while. It seems like for every series I finish, there are three more that I want to start. #FirstWorldBookBloggerProblems.
lol that’s so true for me too 😛
I was gifted book 1, I don’t know why I haven’t cracked it open yet. I do love Death already…
This has been a fun series and watching Alex grow has been exciting. I hope I don’t have to wait as long for the next book as I did for this one. I guess the author had some sort of personal issue. I know they happen. It is just disappointing.
I need to get caught up on this series. I read the first book and loved it but then put the rest of hold because of the sketchy release dates. So happy the author is active again and this series is still a good one. Wonderful review!
Yea, I was a little worried. I guess that author had some personal issues. We all have that every now and then. I’m just glad that we did finally get the story. Hopefully, the next one won’t be as long of a wait.
I’m not sure why I haven’t made sure to meet Alex yet, Melanie, but I haven’t. And she sounds like my kind of heroine, plus there are fae? *sighs* Maybe one of these will get me out of my reading slump? I kind of don’t feel like reading anything right now, but your review made me excited about Alex, Death and Falin!
Great review 🙂
Reading slumps are hard. I know how those go. I hope you find something to bring you out of it soon.
Well, I did one-click the first in this series, and I’m currently trying a highlander romance 🙂 Hopefully something will shake me out of this slump soon 🙂
I need to start this series by Kalayna Price… I think I would like Alex. You have me curious about the romance in this book… I like that Falin is courting her!
This has been a great series. Plus you’re past this long waiting period we had to go through for this book. Hopefully, there won’t be another one.
Fun right? I was so happy to finally have the sequel here! It’s a great one once again even if unlike you I forgot about some little things. I hope we won’t have to wait as long for the next one.
I hope we don’t have to wait as along either. I do wish I had the time to relisten to the previous book. I think I would’ve enjoyed this one more. But I did okay without.
Another series I have on my never ending wishlist. I am happy this was enjoyable and will go audio when I start them.
I know, my wishlist is growing a lot faster than I’m removing them, that is for sure.
I’ve been loving to dive back into series that I have neglected through audio. I do think I need to pick up this series and it is good that you didn’t have to go back but could go on without it even if it would have helped. Good to know since I don’t often have time to do the same thing.
I so wish there was more time in the day to revisit some of the books that I would like to revisit, either for books like this or just because I want revisit an entire series.
I have this series on my TBR pile from the library. I will not be listening, though. I have another series (contemporary romance) that’s narrated by this narrator and I dropped the series after the 1st audio because her performance was so flat. Wish I could return the rest of the books but I can’t. But at least you enjoy her. LOL
You are way pickier than I am on narrators. There are several that I love that you can’t stand and some that I tolerate that you don’t like. I didn’t think her performance was flat for this series at all.
Its stricky yo get back to a series when it’s been a while since you read the previous book. I am glad to hear you could listen to this one without the relisten. That drug that brings nightmares alive sounds horrifying. The romance drama sounds pretty interesting and I hope she ends up with the guy you like best. Great review!
It was a really weird drug. There were some pretty scary nightmares out there.
Alex Craft has been on my TBR forever! I need to get going on it.
I know how that goes. I’ve got several series like that.
I love being able to fall right back into a series I’ve spent some time away with. I don’t think I’ve seen her books before. I’m going to have to check our library.
I can’t remember how I originally stumbled across this author. I don’t think a blogger had recommended her. She isn’t one of the top authors. I don’t think the delay that she had helped her any. I do like the stories though.
