This is only my second book from Paige Tyler. I read the first book in the X-Ops series. I enjoyed it and plan on reading more of that series. I was excited to get the opportunity to review the audio for the SWAT series to experience more of her work.

This story is about a SWAT team made up entirely of werewolves. This draws the attention of an investigative journalist (don’t call her a reporter, she makes about $30k more than a reporter, thank you very much). The attention isn’t for the reason you would think, they are too perfect. They have done nothing wrong, like ever. Mackenzie (Mac) finds this hard to believe. She also thinks that they are taking some sort of performance enhancing drugs to make them as good as they are.

Gage, the SWAT team leader and alpha werewolf, and Mac have an instant connection. There is some lore that werewolves have “The One” but Gage had never believed it. Xander, one of the team leaders, is convinced that Mac is The One for Gage. Mac and Gage have instant lust, but it does take time for the love to build and even longer for both of them to accept.

There is a ton of action in this story. Gage and his team have killed a mob boss’s son in a clean kill while doing a raid (kill mob boss’s family members always goes well). The mob boss is out for blood. All the while, the SWAT team is trying to hide who they are from Mac’s ever watchful eye.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I’m hoping to get more information on the werewolf lore in future books. We didn’t learn a whole lot in this book. We did learn that they are born werewolf and are turned completely during a traumatic event, say like being in the military during the war. That was a nice twist. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. I’ve already got book two download to listen to very soon.

Hungry Like The Wolf Audiobook Narration

4 Hearts

I’ve already been listening to Abby Craden with the FUC series by Eve Langlais, so I knew some of what to expect. I greatly enjoyed her narration. I thought she did a great job with this series. I had no problem jumping straight from one series to this one. As a matter of fact, I listened to them back to back. She did a great job. This series has much more action and less humor than the Eve Langlais series and Ms. Craden still handled it all very well.

I’m Melanie and I live in Ohio. I have two horses and a dog. I’m an animal lover, avid book reader and audiobook listener. I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. My favorite paranormal creatures are shifters, doesn’t matter the flavor.

  1. I loved her X-OPs series but I haven’t tried the SWAT series yet. I really need to push this up on my TBR list.

    • Hope you’ll check it out, Angela! 🙂

    • I need to pick up more of the X-Ops series. I just have so much more time to listen than I do to actually read, so I’ll get through these faster. I should have more reading time as winter gets closer. 🙂

  2. A swat team made up from entirely werewolves, that sounds like it would make for a great story. And a jorunalist who goes to investigate. Although that sounds a bit weird she is going to investigate them for being too perfect, but I guess even being too good is suspicious.
I like it when books add an original twist on the typical werewolf lore. This sounds like an action packed book. Great review!

    • Hope you’ll check it out, Lola! 🙂

    • Mac is convinced that they are covering up stuff, which is why nothing is coming out. They are too good at their job and they never do anything wrong. She does find out they are covering something up, just not what she was expecting. 🙂

  3. Thanks for much for the great review! Glad you liked it! Abby also narrates the other books in the series! 🙂

  4. Ohhh a SWAT team of werewolves sounds rather interesting!

  5. I was reading this, not sure why I stopped. I have not warmed up to Mac though

    • I’ve done that before, then for one reason or another I pick the series back up again, usually. I had two series like that this year. So many books, so little time. 🙁

  6. I liked this one but was told the next one is even better so I can’t wait to listen to it. 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Stormi! I think you’ll love WOLF TROUBLE! And don’t forget IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES releases Dec 1st same day in audio, paperback and ebook! 🙂

    • I think Wolf Trouble is next up on my audio list. I already have it downloaded, so I can’t wait to listen to it. Glad to hear it is even better. 🙂

  7. I liked the second one even better, Melanie. And I have the third one for review and can’t wait. Glad the audio is a strength, too.

    • So glad to hear it. I think that is what is next on my audio list. I know I already have it on my iPod.

    • I think you’re going to love Becker’s book, Sophia! 🙂

  8. Hopefully she fleshes out the world. I do love paranormal romantic suspense so I will be following your reviews closely.

    • I’ve got the next one up very soon on my listening list. I’ll keep you posted.

  9. THis sounds like it has a great premises! Wonderful review!

    • I’m excited to start book two to see where the series goes next.

      • Somewhere different with each book in the series! Let me know how you like it! 🙂

    • Hope you’ll check it out! 🙂

  10. Who could resist a SWAT team made of werewolves? I know I’m not going to be able to! And the investigative journalist sounds very sassy.
    Great review, Melanie!
Have a great weekend and happy reading.

    • Thank so much, Lexxie! If you check it out, let me know how you like it! 🙂

      • It might be a while yet, as I have so many books on my kindle, and on my physical shelves, and in my audio library 🙂 But I’ll make sure you’ll know if I enjoy it!!

        • Sounds good! Also, Book 2 in the Series, WOLF TROUBLE is on sale this weekend for 99 Cents! 🙂

    • It has been fun so far. I’m really excited to start book two, which I’ve already downloaded.

  11. Do you think Paige left the lore “out” or just lacking on purpose??? That would drive me NUTSO!! I need that to understand the personality of the wolves.

Totally fair 3.5!! I would have rated it the same but I’d read on to find out more… grrrrrr…

    • I’m hoping the lore will build more as the series goes on. I do like what we’ve learned so far. The story was fun and I really like the characters. We’ll see where it goes next.

      • I can promise you’ll learn more about the lore throughout the series (which is 16 books). Publishers also hate data dumps in the first book in the series, so I’m sprinkling things throughout. Readers will meet different kinds of werewolves in Book 3 in the series, then something else “new” to them in each book that follows. Readers will learn these things along with the werewolves in the SWAT pack. 🙂

  12. oh loved your review. I really liked this book as well, and I love the mix of a special ops team that are wolf shifters. And Paige Tyler is so fantastic. Glad to hear that the narrator was great too.

    • I’m starting Wolf Trouble this morning. I’m excited to see where this series goes.

    • Thanks so much! So glad you loved it! 🙂
