Magic Shifts Audiobook
The Kate Daniels series has to be one of my favorite series of all time. The world that the Ilona Andrews writing team has built in this magical Atlanta is, well, magical. Their ability to describe the monsters that Kate, Curran and the rest of the gang have to face always amazes me. They have the ability to make me laugh, cry and I’m always on the edge of my seat while listening to Kate try to save those around her.
In this Magic Shifts, Kate and Curran have given up control of the Pack. They are not allowed at the Keep. Jim is trying to juggle the political battle, now that he is the Beast Lord and ruling over all the clans. He knows that his power isn’t absolute at this time and that he is walking a very fine line. So there is nothing he can do when, Eduardo, a member of Clan Heavy goes missing and Mahon, leader of Clan Heavy, doesn’t seem concerned. However, George, Mahon’s daugher and Eduardo’s girlfriend, goes to Kate and Curran for help. I don’t want to go into too much more detail, so as not to spoil anything for people who haven’t read this book yet.
There are ghouls and djinn which are new this series. We also have Ghastek, our favorite navigator. Roland and Saimon also make appearances. We even get to see a lot of Dali, and I just love her to pieces. I love seeing how she is handling being consort to the Beast Lord.
Magic Shifts is a another great installment to the Kate Daniels series. There is a lot that takes place and you see the changes coming for Kate and Curran and many of their friends. Many have to make tough decisions, some already have made those decisions. I can’t wait to see where Ilona Andrews take the series from here. If you haven’t tried this series, I highly recommend it, but you will need to start at the beginning or you will be lost.
Magic Shifts Audiobook Narration
Reneé Raudman continues to be an excellent pairing for this series. She does a great job with the growing cast of characters and their many different voices and accents. She has the exceptional ability to really bring the emotion of the story to life. I think Ms. Raudman has a great ability to make me laugh or cry along with the story. While I could probably pick up an arc of this book in print, I will continue to wait for this series and pick up on release day on audio. I also wasn’t even willing to wait for a review audio. I went ahead got it from Audible so I could have it on release day. This is an audio only series for me.
Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children, and many dogs and cats. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.
Renée Raudman is a multi-award-winning audiobook narrator. A multiple Audie Award nominee, she has earned a number of AudioFile Earphones Awards, including for The Last Secret by Mary McGarry Morris and Wesley the Owl by Stacey O’Brien, as well as a Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Award for Joe Schreiber’s Chasing the Dead. She has also performed on film, TV, radio, and stage, including the recurring roles of Jordon on ABC’s One Life To Live, Phyllis on NBC’s Passions, and guest-starring roles on prime-time TV. She has been heard in cartoons (The Simpsons, Billy & Mandy), videogames, and on the E! channel. Her narration of Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper was selected by Library Journal as one of the best audiobooks of 2009, and her reading of Marthe Jocelyn’s Would You was selected by the ALA as one of the best young adult audiobooks of 2009.
