Ah, the last book in the Dark Protectors series. Endings of series are always bittersweet. I love seeing how everything wraps up, but then I also sad to see the end of characters that I’ve come to love. In this series and in this book, the ending comes with the story of Zane and Janie. Janie is a character we’ve watched grow up throughout the series. When we first meet Janie in the first book, she is only four years old. I haven’t read many books where I’ve known the character as a child. I wasn’t sure how I would like a romance about a book when I read about them and stuff bear named Mr Mullett. Turns out, it didn’t bother me in the slightest.
Janie is the chosen one. She is a very powerful seer. She sees the future. Always has. We see her do this in the first book when she is just four years old and tells her that her knew father is coming to get them. She also has the ability to create dream worlds. Not only create dream worlds, but to allow other people into them. In comes Zane, a boy that has grown up with Janie, but we don’t know what he is. Is he a vampire, shifter, a hybrid? No one knew. There is also Kalin, who is a kurjan that has been at war with the vampires since the beginning of the series. He also wants Janie.
Zane has had a rough life. We’ve seen him in bits and pieces throughout the series, but this is the first time we really get to spend any time with him. He is very loyal and a great warrior. He’s done things he isn’t proud of, but he has done them to protect his family. He also wants to protect Janie and keep her out of this war. Problem is that she is vital to the war. There is no keeping her out of it.
I really enjoyed the wrap up to this series. I thought it brought things to a great conclusion. I loved that there was plenty of page time with each of the characters that I’ve loved from the series. I loved watching everyone come together to win the war. While there are two potential love interests for Janie, there is no love triangle. Kalin is never a true potential lover for Janie, no matter how much he wants it. He is just too evil for he to ever willingly be with him.
I think that this was my favorite romance of the series. I loved watching these two come together. I don’t know if it is because this is something that has been building since book one or what, but I really enjoyed seeing Zane trying so hard to win Janie. He really wasn’t what Janie was expecting when she finally got to met him in person.
I also enjoyed the wrap up at the end with each couple. I thought that was a great way to end the series. I felt it gave it great closure. I will miss this world that Rebecca Zanetti has built. I will have to check out some of her other series to see what I’m going to try next. I’m sure it will be an adventure.
Marked Audiobook Narration

Once again, I really enjoyed the narration by Karen White. I’ve enjoyed it throughout the entire series. I was always able to tell which character was speaking. She had some wonderful accents, plus the demonic voices she had to tackle. There was even some revisit of the really young Janie, which she nails. If you haven’t tried Karen White, I recommend you try one of her audiobooks.
